Yes, I had one on my old computer and the virus that came with it klled my system. A normal virusscan (like norton) should find it and get rid of it. I actually found the log for the one on my computer and it had everything... creditcard numbers, neo passwords, etc. Luckily the mechanism that was built to send that info was flawed and it never could get that info to anyone.

I say go for the XTREME protection route. Load up your PC with every protection program imaginable. Run a scan every 3 days and never go to ANY supspicious web sites. Then you will really be the untouchable dragon.

Call me paranoid, but I run a firewall, virus scan and 2 different spyware prevetative programs plus an adblocker. Thankfully, so far, nothing has gotten in. We used to have one central computer in the house that got nailed twice by viruses and had credit card info stolen once. Now that I have my own computer I protect it constatnly. I'm a graphic design(&photography) graduate and my computer is everything to my future career.

As for starting over, I'm sure you can do it. When I first started out I had just earned 200k, just playing games (and Neopets had probably half the games they have now), no restocking (had dial up) and got my account hacked and cleaned out. I took a break for a while and when I came back I really put some effort into things. I have 4 painted pets, a gallery in progress and a lab map. I always remember that Neopets is something fun for me to do and its not like someone cleaned out my actual bank account and left me pennyless.

I think UD made a typo, it's H4H (H4000 Helmet, originally the HH: Hypno Helmet). ;)

How did you find the log?? Just want to see if there's any in my comp since my comp's been hacked before.

Can anyone recommend any good antivirus programs? I found norton scan useless. I have to run 2 other virus scans to find viruses that norton did not detect.

Never trust Norton AntiVirus. One virus slipped through it in my school computer and completely killed it.

I too would love to know how to find and access that sort of log just in case. Knock wood, I've been very lucky. I'm also (so I've been told) completely paranoid. Seems you have to spend more time on the computer getting updates and scanning than anything else anymore!

I use McAfee av and like it alot. I had Norton, but for some bizarre reason it and my computer didn't get along at all. Installed Norton and everything went green - my desktop wallpaper, icons, etc., internet - everything had a green tint to it. So back to McAfee. I do miss their Clinic, but that costs extra now.

I have Stinger stand alone, which you can download for free from the McAfee site and that will scan for trojans, etc. - very useful. That one saved my roommate's computer when the Doom virus hit - she got it but Stinger got rid of it.

I also have ad-aware (free version), Spybot 1.3 (the newer version) and SpywareBlaster - that's not a spyware remover, it's more of a preventative thing. It will automatically place bad sites (pop-up stuff, adware, malware, drive-bys, etc.) in your restricted sites and block them from getting cookies.

Whatever av/spyware programs you have, when you scan, make sure you're doing a deep scan and make sure you have your system restore disabled while you're scanning. That is very important. Otherwise, the programs may find the bad stuff and get rid of it, but technically it's still sitting in your computer in the restore.

After you scan, clean, remove anything needed, then you enable the restore again. Sounds like a pain, I know, but it's not really and it's worth the extra step. Also don't be online when you scan, shut down anything else that's running. Go eat lunch or dinner, take a walk, whatever, as a deep scan will take quite some time (on av anyway).

I look for spyware updates about once a week, my av auto updates and I scan once a week. I also clear cookies, temporary internet and history after I leave any site, I do NOT ever use instant message service and almost no one knows my email - I have different ones for different things and none of my usernames/passwords have any relation to anything else.

If you use IE6, make sure you have all the critical updates - 5 were released on the 13th and they were all security updates.

Either you've got a virus, trojan, some bad spyware or it's someone who knows you and for whatever reason seems to have it in for you :(

keyloggers?

I think they're those things than scan your computer's security/memory for any passwords or remembered stuff.

really? how do i check if someone tried doing that? and i dont have any passwords saved on my computer!

I use ad-aware, cwshredder, spybot S&D, and SpyBlaster...they work for me...easy to use also!
EDIT: EVERCONFUDSED! u beat me to it! lol :P

I'm pretty sure if you press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and look at all of the programs running it will display Keylogger or Trojan. This virus can't infect your computer without you accepting it. Therefore someone over MSN can send you a file with the virus contained but if you don't accept it than you won't get the virus.

I"m terribly sorry about your loss... I'd take a break from neopets, that's what I did when I was frozen and it helped.

I have found the best anti-virus software to be PestPatrol. It found a trojan virus on my home computer that McAfee didn't find. I immediately changed all passwords to Neopets and my email accounts.

untouchable dragon, I feel so sorry for you. If it were me, I would walk away for good--but, hey, I have said that before after losing things (but never 7 million) and yet, I always return. The game is addicting.
