I really think I would have played more if the whole thing was shorter...I did many games for a few days, but after that I was pretty well burned out.

I really did NOT enjoy this cup. It was to long it was just WAY to long. I also didnt enjoy how the finals where run. I think we should have done something like 1 round robin. Top oh say 10 then did a another round robin then top 5 or something to determine winners. This may not have shortened the entire game play but the double round robin was simply to much with all the teams. Last year I think I enjoyed more when it came to being able to pick a team when mine lost. (tho i was on Dragarian most of the cup last year) I would rather see it ran as said above you could pick a new team for the top 10 then if your team didnt make it to the top 5 you could help by only playing the supporter games. Also I'd rather NOT see the scores until the finals are over. The reason being this: Say this time my team was going against fairie land... I knew it was okay if i didn't play because they where not that strong of a team.

I mean all in all it was fun this year but it was to much and to easy to get bored with. I find it funny tho I supported Lost Desert until i couldnt and then supported Dragarian and they won.... teach me to not stay loyal from last year LOL!

(sorry if any of this sounds funny i kept getting distracted)

If I had visited the forum more during the whole Altador Cup thing I probably would have been more encouraged to play it more. But seeing my rank continuously being stuck at Beginner didn't spur me on much. I was done with Yooyuball if I was able to scrape up 9 goals total in a day. :(

I agree the Cup ran too long. I do prefer the round robin style, but one was enough--I think it should've been first round robin(15 days), then a round robin with only the top 8 teams(7 days), then the 4 top teams do a round robin to determine positioning in the finals(3 days), then finals(3 days). They could schedule a day of non-matches between each tier, where you could score points for your personal rank without competing against any team. That'd be a welcome relief from the constant "WE HAVE TO BEAT OUR OPPONENTS" feeling.

i was on burn-out right before the finals so i could squeak by a level three. the mere sight of a YYB window makes me feel a little ill.
i can't imagine what its like after a 1000 games...

I didn't even get to any of the "levels"...I'm still a beginner. Like I said, I just burned myself out too quickly, I guess. I would have preferred one round robin or something.

Well, actually I had the same concern thinking that Darigan would be doomed because of the arrangement - let's face it, Roo Island is probably more popular than Darigan - but it turned out to be just fine and we won the cup! I have no complaints, after all, I was with Darigan last year too and it had been painful to see them lost last year.

Well, I'm glad that everything is over. Congrats to everyone for finishing (it's such a long long run), especially to the Rooligans, I'm sure it was a very tight race!

I can definitely understand what you guys are saying about getting burned out. I got burned out midway through and didn't do much for a few days. Then the thought of good prizes and Shenkuu making the finals, plus the shiney shields spurred me on. Of course I only went up two ranks once I started playing hard again, but hey, every little bit helps. :P

I can;t wait to see what the prizes are going to be.

Me neither!

Even though I was burned out this year, I feel like I should've played more because I didn't have the opportunity last year (abroad in Guatemala). I had signed up for Darigan, but was unable to play. Curses!

It is a shame that you and other's who would have liked to get past beginner, go to the petpage that explains levels. To get to level 1 required 50 points.

1 yyb - 1 point
3 SS - 1 point
15 msn - 1 point.

The cup lasted 34 days - this means you only needed to win less than 2 games a day (of yyb)to reach level 1.

I was aware of the page. :( Sadly, after a few days of intense playing...yeah. I had other things to do, like job hunt. I was shooting for at least the lowest level, but couldn't bring myself to do it. After seeing that page, I even concentrated on Yooyuball.

Well, I really liked the way they did it, even though it was long and got really tedious towards the end. I like how no team was eliminated until the finals. But of course I could be biased just because I love how we started out so bad then had such an awesome comeback! :D

I'm thrilled we got third place. I feel much more of a sense of accomplishment in having the team I picked at the beginning make it to third than I think I would have if my team had been eliminated and I had jumped on the Darigan bandwagon to get first.

Hear, hear! I'm really proud of us, and I feel that anyone in the top 4 teams should feel proud of themselves too. We all fought hard, and though there can be only one champion, we're all winners, effort-wise. (Okay, most of us, anyway) If you think you did your best, that's good enough.

LOL, you have NO idea. Actually, in all seriousness, as long as we had a movie or music going in the background, it wasn't too bad. Mute the game, and play with only a part of your brain focusing on it, and it was doable, even almost ignorable at times. (Towards the last few days, I was paying so little attention to the game that I'd get frustrated when I couldn't get a normal ball in, only to realize that I'd already gotten 9 goals...my husband thought that was a great source for amusement...until he started doing it too! :P ) The worst I had of it was the last day when I was pushing to get to a nice and even 2000 games - I had to pull off 186 games on Sunday - and boy did I almost give up due to being SOO sick of it. Especially since I knew I only had to get like, 85 games in that day, and I was just going for a silly even number. The more tired I got, the more I had to actually focus on the game, and the more irritating it got. But yeah. Definitely not looking at the YYB game for a LONG time.

Some days, I wish I'd only wanted to get to level one...especially when you put it that way! ;)
Kurisutaru wrote:I can;t wait to see what the prizes are going to be.

Me, neither! I was looking through my SDB, and found what I'd gotten last year - the Altador Colosseum Stamp, which is now worth like, 600k-700k, as compared to the Yooyu, which I bought, and is still only worth 350k-400k (but had cost more plot points to get, go figure). My husband has the Underdog book, and it's worth at least 500k now. I suppose if I wanted to sell the stamp, I could...but I tend to hold onto plot prizes for sentimental reasons (kinda like the 5 books from the Lost Desert plot - there's something about seeing the "Anubis Toxicology Reports" book that brings both shudders and reminiscent feelings...).
All this to say, hopefully the prizes this year will be just as awesome as last year. I'm personally hoping for either a good BD weapon or maybe some different Yooyus (provided, of course, that they and the original are non-paintable, so that they all retain their individual value). I wouldn't mind a book or two...I've tended to lean towards those if there's nothing else good available at the prize shop. I seriously doubt they'd make a Darigan p/b available, as they are buyable from the Hidden Tower, so who knows whether or not there'll be a p/b available - especially since Roo and Shenkuu don't have them. Maybe they'll put Pirate p/bs up? That'd be the day...

You said it. I kept DVDs playing in a window next to the game the whole time. I went through a whole season of Babylon 5 the last day. I had already watched the entire runs of Justice League, JLU, Brimstone, and several other shows. There's no way I could have posted as many games as I did if I actually had to pay attention to them.
