By the same person I believe. People (including me) have been arguing with him on this Board.
Sorry about the addition petpages junk in the URL, its because I was editing mine earlier and I have yet to close the window.

How much were they beforehand?
Fri Jul 30, 2004 12:11 pm
I think someone said shortly after the Board was started they were about 18-25k, now I think they're between 95k and being unbuyable...

I see a lot on there for 50-70k. One guy has 18 in his shop, probably a seperate account of the inflator.

Yeah, I know some of the more influential avatar collectors were posting telling everyone it was a scam so maybe the price is slowly decreasing again?

i know that there was going to be a jeran related avatar on Meridell Day from one of the editorial. i secretly speculated that it could the TCG or even the meridell hero collectible card. obviously, i missed out on the possibility of this book....i am passing this up as well since it's already leaked out

The second a two day old account starts claiming that they've heard from a reliable source that a certain item will be used to get the soon to be released avatar I get very skeptical! If this does become the item needed for the avatar I personally think it will have been purely coincidence!

Same here. It sounds like someone is trying to inflate the price so they can hoard them.
I seem to remember something similar to this a while back with liquid goo. I can't remember the exact circumstances but I remember that it was a rumor (or lie) that caused the price to jump astronomically. And then the bubble burst and the price fell, leaving lots of people in the lurch. Anyone else remember that one?

I don't remember that one but I do recall a number of rumours that were much the same going around just before Peophin day, I think they managed to inflate some of the Peophin Chocolates, grooming items and I think someone said they tried the books too.

Oh I remember the liquid goo inflation, that was interesting -- I just sat watching the battledome board and trades board. Boy when that one crashed it crashed big time! I also remember the tyrannian amulet false inflation. That one only took a few hours, but there was a frenzy, prices went from a couple thousand to a double digit figure before the lie was discovered (that it was being retired and would be needed for something).
I agree, never, ever trust someone posting about a specific item being needed for an av, especially a new person who only has a couple of av or no av, 1 unpainted pet and an overpriced shop/trades. There's really no way for anyone to know if a new avatar IS going to be released and if one is, how to get except TNT. How many people hoarded walking carpets and harris for those 2 anticipated but never released avatars...

Why does this inflate so much based on the words of a newbie, yet Veespas didn't inflate as much with the pictures of the Ruki before it was released? The one time I try and invest in something and it bites me in the... behind.

the cue is, if you want to speculate or hoard something, do it quietly and secretly. there are 2 reasons. firstly, nobody can accuse you of spreading rumour EVEN if you think it looks like a certainty. secondly, TNT is likely to change their plans if words got around.
edit: that said, for many of these avatar item speculation or any kind of speculation, players who actively try to get others to "join in" normally do not have confidence in the rumour themselves.

I don't know. It seems that with the except of a rare few on the Neoboards most people don't seem to be able to see reason or how an argument fits together more logically than another.
Its rather stupid really, they're willing to take a warning from a new account that claims (but gives no proof or evidence or reasoning) to have a reliable source rather than a warning against the new account (based on what's happened in the past) that is actually said in an attempt to protect those that may be taken by a "scam".

actually it was because the newbie posted the avatar:
