I don't remember that one but I do recall a number of rumours that were much the same going around just before Peophin day, I think they managed to inflate some of the Peophin Chocolates, grooming items and I think someone said they tried the books too.

I never heard that one but a recent one was the brain tree one. they inflated the card from 2k to 80k and back.

The avatar proves nothing though unless the person could show they actually owned it:

Why does the single avatar show any proof towards the fact that a book would be what you'd need for it?

Not only that but there are a large number of unreleased avatars all which have not been released but many of which have had different counter-parts released on a relevant date!

This coupled with a number of other reasonings behind the issue basically make the argument stronger against than for.

The only thing "showing" the avatar should, in theory do is get those that are slightly more gullible involved.

You know, it's crazy that a person like this has so much power to inflate things and it's super annoying, but every time I see one of these threads I keep thinking, man... I should do that. Think of the np! Of course I would never go to such great lengths. 0:)

You're not the only one, there was one person on the Board who, although they were against the person trying to inflate the price, said they wished they'd caught the Board earlier when the prices were only around 20k so they could have purchased a few (knowing that the rumour would inflate the prices) and then sell them at a higher price.

If only someone would false inflate the Fuhnah the Fire Faerie card.
I would be swimming in dough if that card ever inflated.

Yeah, you could do it. I mean, we all could...and I'm sure that most of us have older accounts, which would be taken even more seriously than Johnny New Member's would.

However, every time I'm tempted to do it, I remember that mama didn't raise no cheat.

well, that's speculation for you..the wrong move for this player is obviously that he publicised it. like i mentioned, it may not be the book, it may be a card or going to a neopedia. it may even be made available only to players who fought on the side of Meridell in the war b4 last. that's the risk you have to take.

a few weeks ago, i was trying to locate a jeran avatar because the editorial did mention something abt releasing jeran stuff which include an avatar. i tried jeran.gif, jeran_knight.gif...etc to justify a reason to speculate in cheap avatar item. however because i can't locate it, i didn't pursue it further.

Ah, shapu--so true.

How can we forget the stuff that happened in December? When people were hoarding the advent calendar petpets after Neopets stopped releasing them in the early part of the day--I watched the price jump from 4,000 to 60,000 in minutes. And then watched it fall back down again--so many people stuck with so many cute little petpets that they paid a fortune for.

sigh, and I innocentlly got caught in that, paid 30,000 for my white ona (I got the other prize, and I wanted the whole set) I was worried they were going to inflate more, because I didn't know how many they had released...instead I overpaid by a lot...

The white ona--it rose drastically in price the same day that it was released. At around 8 am Neopian time, TNT stopped giving it out as an advent calendar prize and instead gave out white chocolate asparagus mousse. And people went nuts after that, buying them up and hoarding them. The price kept going up and up and up. Then all of a sudden--boom! It fell and fell and fell. I remember seeing people with a 100 of them trying to cut their prices--just to get rid of them.

The same sort of thing happened with the feepit also--but the price never got as high as it did with the white ona. People had thought that Neopets would stop giving them out at some point during the day (because they had done so with the white ona), so were buying them up to hoard them. But Neopets didn't stop giving them out and the prices fell quickly.

And that same type of up and down market happened again the day the snow petpet paint brush was given out as a prize. Neopets stopped giving it out at some point in time and instead gave out the snowbunny (TCG ) card. And, once again, people hoarded them, making the price rise, until the bubble burst, and when that happened, everyone was undercutting everyone else just to get rid of them without losing their shirt.

It was kind of like being on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, I guess.
