I'm really sorry to hear about that, but I'm afraid that there's always a risk like that.
There's a link somewhere that shows how much it costs to adopt a certain pet. Anyone got the url?
I myself have lost a Mutant Techno that went to a newbie that went inactive after a few days.
Look on the bright side - at least you know it'll have a good home still

Good question, I'd like to know that myself....I have a pet that I'd like to transfer to a holding account while I start a new lab rat....*wrinkles her nose*
Also, I'm a person who will give back a pet if it wasn't supposed to be lost, etc. If anyone wants help transfering a pet, I'll gladly help, go ahead 'n pm me. The vise versa is true. If anyone feels like helping me transfer my current lab rat, I could definately use some kind soul's help :XD
Although, you guys realize how to do it a very effective way, right? If you install Netscape Navigator, and already have IE installed you can have both accounts open at the same time, and it should be fairly easy to transfer over from there...just have both windows open. Sorry if anyone already suggested that, I've been gone a while and so don't know how many know of that trick... :sweatdrops:

Oh, the URL to find out how much your pet is worth is: http://neopets.com/process_adopt.phtml? ... ETNAMEHERE
For it to work you have to have less than three pets and no neopoints out of the bank.
This is also called the 'Auto-Adopt Code'. Once you put your pet in the pound, paste that URL in the address bar and you'll have a far better chance to get it.

I am so surprised that this person will not even reply to you, especially as they are grown up and not a little annoying kid. I think things like that mess up Neopia. I mean why not give the pet back - she means so much to you and nothing to her?
I have to admit I'm surprised by it too, although I realize it's probably silly for me to be. When I saw all her "credentials," I held out some hope that she would help me -- especially since I told her she could keep the mazzew and I offered her a different poogle. I would get no enjoyment at all from a pet that I obtained and kept that way. It wouldn't be worth it if it caused someone else pain.
Thanks you guys for all your sympathetic responses. It's makes me feel so much better knowing that others understand how I feel! But most of all, I'm so relieved to find out that there are other caring Neopians here who would never think to take advantage of someone else's misfortune.

Im really sorry for your loss. I too lost a poogle about 2 years ago when i first started neopets, i won a magical purple poogle toy from poogle solitaire and then tried to transfer my newly created pet to my main account. Sadly, someone jumped in and took him from under my nose, I repeatedly offered him np for my pet but he wouldnt listen and two weeks later he disappeared from neopets never to be seen again, so my poogle is sat in a dead account..... I still miss him cos he was my first ever pet, but i have created a new poogle now.
I hope the new owner comes to her senses and lets you have your poogle back. Fingers crossed!!:)

I think the way this works is if you get a message telling you the pet already has an owner, you have enough nps on hand to adopt. In other words, if you don't have enough nps on hand, you'll get a message saying so.
I'm too am sorry for your loss. Hopefully your adult player is one who only plays a couple of times a week and will respond eventually.
I have always been afraid of transferring pets, but had been researching it a bit lately due to my daughter's pleading! Although it is always a risk, I've found some things you can do to decrease that risk. Taking a screenshot to prove ownership prior to the transfer is an excellent tip I haven't read anywhere else - thanks!
Solving the Master Vex avatar! Please share your screenshot. Punchbag Sid Tracking Thread
I gather some of the people who tranfer high-risk pets on Neocolours use three browsers instead of two. The third browser is Opera, logged into the account the pet is being sent to, set to the direct URL to adopt the pet, and auto-refreshing. Then if there's some sort of glitch with the second browser you still have some insurance. I've never tried it myself.
I think pets being abandoned lose their Battledome items now, but they still keep their book list, right? Since the booklist isn't public, you could read a few books to the pet and prove it was yours by telling the new owner what they were.

I have screenshots and other evidence, but since she wouldn''t respond to my neomails, they're useless.
I just went to peek at my former poogle, and it's been given to someone else! I don't know if she was transferred or abandoned in the pound, but it's with a new owner and has a polarchuck now. I don't even know if it's worthwhile to try to neomail this new person and ask if they'd be willing to give her back if I gave them another poogle...

Well, you've got nothing to lose, right? Explain that the previous person never responded to your neomail, maybe they'll be nicer. I know I would return a pet too. In fact, I have! I used to adopt them as charity work and put them back when they had better stats.
That's rather mean, though, isn't it? Why ignore your request and then get rid of the pet?
I'd join their guild in a separate account, find out which members don't like them, and then slowly poison everyone against them, and eventually complain to the guild owner...
Did I just say that?
Edit: If you believe it is the same person (the hints are there in the ages, guilds, shops and such) then try to give them a subtle guilt trip. Strong enough that if they're the ones, they'll pick up on it, but subtle enough that anyone else won't. Maybe when they see you're still trying, they'll see you really want it.
And, you know, if Irony is working overtime, they may have lost it while transferring it. I'd hurry, because if this was the case (it could be) they might neomail the new owner and try to get it back too.
