When I was at school I changed school quite often so I always made sure I met the popular people and went out with the most popular guy (yes I was shallow in those days, Im sad to say) But Im at college now and tend to get on with everyone, Ive grown up and dont judge people so now I can get along with different types of people.

9th grade has come for me, and there are definitely definitive cliques. While there is very little structure between the cliques, there is a strongly established power structure within the cliques. [Hey look-I have a little repetition thing going on! :D] No one really wants to be popular; most are happy in their own groups.

Weird thing is: I'm not in any group. Ever since seventh grade when a huge social restructuring occured (three elementary schools' students joined to form a junior high), I've been floating around. The people I was friends with in elementary school suddenly seemed bland and boring. They were still wonderful people, but my interests [Piano/viola/debate] and their interests [Shopping/Sports/Movies] drifted farther and farther apart.

I think it's wonderfully freeing to not be limited to a set of friends united by a name.

Me
The rest of the dipwads who attend my highschool.

I like to keep things simple.

It's gonna be hard, first I have to seperate all our groups:

Wayward Asians
Asian Preps
Wayward Other People
Mainstream Preps
Off-To-The-Side Preps
Rich people who are not preps
Wannabes
Weirdos
Wannabe Goth/Punks (we have no actual ones. heh)

Mainstream Preps
Off-To-The-Side Preps
Rich People Who Are Not Preps
(Mainstream Asian Group) <-- Me. The Asians form together. We're electromagnetic.
Wayward Other People
Wannabe Preps
Wannabe Goth/Punks
Wayward Asian
Weirdos

'Normal' -this includes preps, average, goth, punk, etc...
'Unpopular/disliked' - Their own little group. They're all in this group because people dislike them, and usually with good reason.
'Druggies' - Enough said.

I have so many types of people under 'normal', because that's how it is at my school. Average people have friends with goths and punks and preps, and punks are friends with a wide variety of people. It's really sorta cool, actually. Yes, there are 'cliques' I guess. But again, many people are part of more than one 'clique.'

Eh, here's how it was kindergarten-grade twelve.

Popular kids
Athletic kids
Rich kids
Band members
Class clowns (that was me)
Academically Talented kids
Normal, average kids
NOT Academically Talented kids
Poor kids
Flunkers of former grades

Kind of typical.

Clowns
Bad hand (otherwise known as the whiners.)
Punk
Gawwwwths! (Said in bad country accent)
Band Kids
Table straighteners (often Band Kids as well. These are the people who stay back for ten minutes after class to straighten the desks and realphabetize the dead things on the shelf.)
Stoners. Enough said.
Philosophers
"Popular" kids. These kids were cool, before it became blaspheme to be a "prep". Now they're desperately trying to reclaim their throne from the people they were pushing into urinals two years prior.
Witches (Not Wiccans- just a coven of preteens that insist they're giving you the "evil eye" when you walk past.)
Yu-Gi-Oh players (also known as Library Losers (not my term for 'em))
D&Ders
Scrubs (Badly groomed)

There's no ladder as such, but i suppose there are several groups, some people fit into more than one.

Popular aka Ivory Tower
Charvers (who have a chain of popularity within their group)
Rock fans
Stoners
People who do sports
Nerds (exactly one)
The really weird people who hang out together though they have very little in common except for a fondness of dirty websites
The others.

My school is more of a clique thing, and if you don't like someone...then you just don't talk to them. I'm not really sure, it proably depends on the grade. Although if you all watch MADE tonight you'll see what my school is actually like...XP /shameless plug

Most of the people in my school mix with other people, no matter what "clique" that person is in. I talk to people on the football team, volleyball team, the Europeans, the Latinos, the "Ghetto" Asian kids, the Plain Geeks, the rest of the Ghetto people, and the others. I stray from group to group but I'm usually always seen with my best friends. Basically if you have a best friend, then that's your clique. You talk and hang out with other people whenever you feel like it. It depends on how you get along with a person. There are about 2000 students in my school, there's really no room for a social ladder.

I forgot to mention that I talk to other people too (not snobby) but mostlyI hang out with my two or three best friends. But the group I'm in is MY group :D

True social hierarchism in public schools is a myth and would require an impossible level of organization.

Wed Oct 27, 2004 10:29 pm

Hmm... this is sort of hard....

- The seniors -
- Popular "preps" -
- Popular "gothics" -
- Assorted people -
- Well-known "crazy" people -
- Band/Snowball people -
- "Crazy" followers/ wanna-be's -
- "Prep" followers/ wanna-be's -
- The seriously mental people -

Yeah... kind of a weird ladder, but, it's something like that.

As for me, my main "group" is with the well-known "crazy" people. I'm rather assorted too, though, because I have friends in the seniors, "preps", "gothics", and the band/snowball people.

Hrm, I dunno... there are really 2 kinds of people:

~Preppy People~
~Non-Preppy People~

Within those two categories, we all have are own little social groups. In my particualr group (the people that sit at my lunch table) there's the band geek (though she's actually quite popular), the used-to-be-prep, the tomboy, the goth (though she's really not that goth-ish), the funny/always-do-the-right-thing one, the gothic-artist-anime-wierdo (that all the above-mentioned have a strong dislike for ^^;), and then there's me. The techie-geek-artist-megaweirdo-always-blabbing-about-some-new-video-game-graphic-designer. I'm pretty much the techinically-inclined one in my group. Our little (I hate the word, but you might call it) "clique" (*shudders*) would fit under the second category.

About the other category, well, I think you've figured that one out.

Note: I also do not mean to sound rude when I say "prep". Some preps are mean and snobby, but I have met some down-to-earth ones that are really nice. Hey- it's not their fault they're popular.

(Everything in one)

I Home School, I cannot possibly have more than one single part of the ladder. :P

She knows that, I am sure, I think she just wanted to know the "made up" ones.. :)

This is how -I- see the social scale. I class myself in more than one group, since they tend to mix.

The Really Really Really Stupid Idiots
The Idiots
The Smart People
The Athletics
The Less But Still Idiotic People
The Just Plain Weirdos
|The People That Don't Fit Into Another Group| <--Me
|The Smart-But-Not-Recognized People| <--Also Me, Sorta
|The Bookworms| <--Most definately ME
|Those Who Can Actually Type Without Chatspeak| <--ME.
|Those Who REALLY Know How To Use A Computer|<--ME.
The Geeks {AKA Pokemon Addicts}
The Class Clowns
The Bullies
Everyone Else

*cough* A few of those groups may have been made up soley for my use, since very few others fit into them..
