Place in order from worst to best:

Slash
Jumping to conclusions
Obvious enmity
Huge age difference
Romance would be superfluous
Incest

If there's anything else you can think of, please add it in.

With me, it's:

1. Obvious enmity
2. Huge age difference
3. Incest
4. Jumping to conclusions
5. Slash
6. Romance would be superfluous

Jumping To Conclusions would probably be lower if I hadn't said farewell to Florence with amputated fingers. Just to clarify, Florence was pre-OotP and hit not only Jumping to Conclusions, but Obvious Enmity and Incest as well. That's ri-ight! And I was a part of it...

Remus/Tonks doesn't count as Huge Age Difference from my standpoint, but I don't much care about the ship.

Anyway, enough Harry Potter. Have a ball, and only be fandom-specific if you know that no outsiders will know what the heck you're talking about!

Do what you will; but I will hinder it if I may.

Hm..

Well.. The worst for me is slash. XD They make a PERFECT fanfic, with a uber plot, then ruin it with bad, ooc slash.

I also dislike huge age differances. xD That is sometimes.. just.. wrong.

In all honesty, I am really confused. I don't know what on earth most of that stuff means.

Anyone care to, please, clarify for the fanfiction impaired?

(Moved to Entertainment Polls.)

Obvious Enmity
Incest
Jumping to conclusions
Huge age difference
Slash
Romance would be superfluous

I don't really mind slash, but the majority of it is usually between characters that would never be in that kind of relationship. =/

'Squick': sick and icky, I believe. Ick(y) and something, anyway.

Slash: male/male or female/female pairing. Example: Harry/Draco or Hermione/Ginny.

Jumping to conclusions: jumping to conclusions. =P

Obvious enmity: the characters hate each other quite obviously.

Huge age difference: the characters have a huge age difference between them.

Romance would be superfluous: the romance wouldn't be required for the plot of whatever the pairing's from.

Actually, by "Romance would be Superfluous" I mean the characters in question already have a deep, non-romantic relationship. (Uttered with Remus/Sirius specifically in mind. R/S doesn't count as slash, by the way, because you can stretch it so as not to be OOC. Hey, my favorite fanfic has Sympathetic!Dudley who is perfectly IC...)

ETA: With me, the line for Obvious Enmity is drawn at a point slightly friendlier than Snape/Hermione. For those unacquainted, that would be cool disdain. (Making Snape/Anyone We've Seen Talking to Snape hit Obvious Enmity, except Dumbledore, McGonagall and Karkaroff. But really now.)

I know it's not on the list, but RPS (real person/people? slash) would be at the top.

Slashing real life people is just.. bad. Why would you want to?! Ugh.

Ahhhh. Thanks!

Well, then...

1. Slash / Incest (tie)
2. Huge age difference
3. Obvious enmity
4. Jumping to conclusions
5. Romance would be superflous

Yay.

I have no idea what incest means. Go me.

Oh, sorry 'bout that. Forgot about it. =P

Incest: Taboo relationship inside a family, such as brother/sister, mother/son...

Why wouldn't that count as slash? Unless there's something J.K. Rowling isn't telling us, they're both guys so wouldn't any sort of romantic relationship between them be considered slash? And since when does slash = OOC? I'm sorry if that's not what you meant, but that's how I'm reading it.

Interesting poll though. As for me, I don't find any of these really squicky in the sense I normally hear the word. It's more if I don't like it, I don't read it, but I don't consider them squicky. Just not my thing.

Here's a list, though like I said, they don't bother me.

Romance would be superfluous - Reason for being at the top is because I don't like romance much in general, so if it's not needed for the plot, I don't really want it in. I guess I don't care as much if it's kept to a minimum or is sticking to canon. Getting fandom specific for Noir, I suppose one could argue whether or not Mireille/Kirika and Chloe/Kirika are canon, but I consider it to be so that I'm fine with that. I suppose the fact that Mireille/Kirika is one my favorite pairings at the moment has something to do with my not minding it one bit. Then again, there aren't a lot of Noir fics out there and a lot of them are Mireille/Kirika so.. I'm not making much sense right now. I'm sorry. ^^;; Honestly, my definition of what I don't mind and mind isn't logical and doesn't make sense, so I'm going to stop before I get myself confused.

Incest - I don't read it but I've got no problems if you like it.

Obvious enmity - Again, I don't read it seeing as 1) none of my favorite pairings fall under this and 2) most of the time it doesn't make much sense.

Huge age difference - See obvious enmity

Jumping to conclusions - I'm not really sure what you mean by this. What sort of conclusions are we jumping to?

Slash- Got no problems and some of my favorite pairings are slash.

One thing you didn't have on here which also bugs me a lot is when the pairing is with an canon character and an OC. That would probably be above romance being superfluous, since a lot of stories just aren't good in general.

Another thing would be gender-bending. Yup. Especially when the only reason is because the author can't accept canon. Look, I've got no problem if you don't like shoujo-ai, I know people who don't, but don't change genders just because you don't want the romance to be between two girls. Leave it out or don't write at all.

R/S isn't a squicky type of slash, I meant.

By jumping to conclusions, I mean things like assuming a character is messed up because of unrequited love in his past, or, in my unfortunate circumstance, shipping two people whose actual identity isn't entirely clear.

Keep in mind I"m rating mostly from LOTR fic experience, so my ratings may be quite a bit different, especially considering I almost always read Eowyn stuff.

Obvious enmity/Incest-- Tied. (I haven't seen any Obvious Emnity ships in LOTR yet, but in Harry Potter they're AWFUL. And um... I found an Eowyn/Eomer thing which made me literally vomit.)
Slash (eep. I once found Eowyn/Lothiriel slash, I haven't yet recovered.)
Jumping to conclusions (It ticks me off when people skip stuff in F/E ships like, say... actual healing... or telling about the Nazgul or Boromir or SOMETHING and just skip to kissing.)
Huge age difference (In LOTR, this isn't as important as it is elsewhere.)
Romance would be superfluous (I've gotten so used to reading fluff that M/E doesn't bug me as much.)

What, haven't you ever heard of Snake and Sword? (sorry to remind you)

That's Wormtongue/Eowyn for non-insiders.

Ohhhh.
Right, forgot.

Dangit Thar! I forgot about Snake'n'sword and you reminded me! Now my brain is uncleeean! Uncleeean! Somebody get me some mental floss!

Well, good thing I listed it at the top.

Augh! Somebody find me an unessecarily bloody fic in which somebody kills the Worm! I feel sick thanks to Thar reminding me of the horror that is Snake'n'sword.

ARG!

I see what you mean. Still, I think to someone who finds slash squicky, I don't think the pairing would matter.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. ^_^ I don't think I've encountered that before though.
