I've gooten both. If you get your teeth pulled, there is NO PAIN what-so-ever. I had some teeth pulled.. It was actually kinda fun... He gave me happy gas, then he shook my lips REALLY hard and gave me some novacaine. I couldnt feel it either. Then he put some more shots in there then he said he would pull it on 3 and when he did pull it I only felt pressure. Yes it is sore the day after and the next day but not to bad. DO NOT DRINK OUT OF A STRAW WHEN YOU GET THEM PULLED. You would get dry socket which HURTS LIKE HECK. There that's my summary. ^______^

If they put you to sleep, they use an IV. It's not a typical IV though, it's not attached via a tube to a hanging bag. Instead it's just a small needle with a plastic attachment to it held into the vein and taped to your skin. Basically like the IV without the tube and the bag, they can then inject the anesthesia into you through this needle.
The reason they use that instead of just injecting the anesthesia directly into your vein, is they don't give it all to you at once. They have to keep giving you a little bit at a time, to make sure that you only get the minimal amount needed. That way you can get up as soon as it's over.
If they didn't use the IV, they'd have to keep sticking you over and over again with a syringe.
Lol, I consider myself a bit of an IV expert, I've had plenty of them in my life. I'm not scared of them anymore, hell, I could probably accurately insert my own IVs by now, and believe me... I've had nurses before that had to take several tries to hit the vein, which shouldn't have been hard considering my skin is practically see-through and my veins are clearly visible. [/end rant]
ANYWAY! What I was getting too, the worst part of the IV in my opinion is when they pull the tape off. And luckily for the dental surgery you'll still be asleep when they do that.
