It will make even more sense now. (it's about the 5th post down in this page):
Banner Update - You may have noticed a new HONKING HUGE DANG banner at the bottom of <s>some</s> all pages. Please bear with us during this experimental phase as we NOT are trying to do what is best for the site, but earning millions and millions of dollars from forcing users to go premium. With that in mind, these new banners should not make the page load any slower for you if you give us your cash and switch to premium and are placed at the bottom of the page so you can browse the site as normal. Rest assured no banners will appear on your userlookups unless of course we want more cash on our pay cheques since we KNOW neopets is addicting.
Upon their statement on it ... I have some more obvservations.
I'm sorry -- I'm fairly familiar with desgin.... there are by far better ways to intergrate ads and I think the "peak" of that with Neopets is the larger ads (and even that was a bit of a compromise.)
It is more of a hinderance than they think it is. In the games I play (Pyramids, Solitare, Neoquest) , I scroll to the bottom of the page automatically. To be presented with such a gaudy ad affects my playing and all the further refreshes I do with those games (meaning I won't play them anymore now.)
.. In between the cover of another perfect wonder where it’s so white as snow // Running through the field where all my tracks will be concealed and there's nowhere to go...

I'm telling you, my hunch is that this is a deliberate killing off of the site. He's bleeding it dry, and taking the profit for other ventures.
oh my, i believed you then and now it seems like this is only making it more likely. plus with the canceling of a few plots and never doing neoschools......maybe that is what they are doing..... *emoticon for really dissapointed and jaded*

Doug's not hurting for cash, that's for sure...not if he can afford Jessica Rockwell (yes, cousin of THE Norman Rockwell) to paint his family portraits.

I don't want the money to give to him, I want it to buy him out. Short of a military coup, an act of Bob causing EVERYONE to quit Neopets, or alien abduction, that's the only way I can think of changing the current trend.

I am pretty tolerant, but I admit that big ads top and bottom and the small one in the yellow side bar have actually made me think for the first time of looking around for a different place to play.
