If your not a smoker, how would you know? And if your a smoker, why are you commenting on it...?

I'd say everyone would know from the endless stories of people dying from that one cig they tried getting them hooked.

Agreed. I can understand if you want to try out a popular restaurant or watch a TV programme that is overhyped just to see what a big deal it is about, but trying smoking is like trying drugs, IMO. They are both addictive, waste money and harmful to your body.

Drugs do actually have an effect on you in that they make you high/trip etc. What does smoking do?

And Jen, some of my friends smoke and I hear them moan far too often on how they wish they'd never started. Many smokers now agree that smoking is a pretty pointless thing to do but they can't stop since they got addicted... damn nicotine.

I drink all the time and have no problem with that.
I do not smoke, but I get enough second hand when I go to the bar.

Cigarettes do have a calming effect on some smokers, but that's only because it soothes the withdrawal symptoms :P

Smokes give you a slight buzz. That's why a lot of people smoke.

Pokemon kid is probably lying.

I'm not addicted to smoking, I havn't smoked in a month. Last time I smoked, I nearly finished a pack.

Not addicted. Don't regret it.

Alrighty guys, this isn't for huge debating or making assumptions of people's integrity. Now watch your replies or this baby is going to be shut down.

I can tell you right now.. that it's NOT the nicotine that gets people so addicted to cigarettes... it's the HABIT of smoking.
People will get into the habit of smoking when bored, or when they're drinking whatever, or after they eat, or after they wake up, or just the habit of holding the cig and taking a drag from it and etc etc. And I tell ya.. habits are hard as crud to break.

And one cigarette let alone one drag isn't going to make you addicted all of a sudden... I don't care what anyone says.
Smoking that first cigarette is NOT a pleasant experience. It's pretty foul and leaves a rank taste in your mouth. People CHOOSE to keep smoking after that first one.

I'm sure the nicotine helps. And often, the first cigarette does give a enough of a buzz. They say, after that initial buzz, you won't likely feel a high that good off a cigarette again.

Personally.. I got that buzz quite often. Sometimes it was on purpose (not gonna explain how or why) but most of the time it would just happen.

I've tried smoking, but it's so bad for you that I never really got into it. I did however vote for drinking. I'm not a major drinker or anything but if the occasion calls for it I figure, why not.

I do both.

I smoke more than I drink. Yeah smoking has its gross things but they really don't bug me. Not to mention when I was at work last week a lady said to me, "A young girl like you smokes?" Yep. I don't brag about smoking cause I know ALOT of people out there dislike it. But I smoke and its nobodies choice but my own to do it.

I only ever drink socially. And the last time I did that was last year September. Its hard for me to actually have alcohol in my possession because of the legal age limit. But a week or so here or there I like to get a 6 pack of something and just have a beer after work... I'm not a big drinker and I HATE hard alcohol.
