Being strip searched in Egypt is not funny.
*eye twitch*

I have wires in my chest too, but thankfully those have never set anything off. My dads friend lost a leg to flesh eating virus thingy... and so he's got a fake leg. But he walks completely normally, and he was in a rush one day, forgot to point it out; and someone thought he was packing a gun; quite frightning.

You'll have to turn off your cell phone on the plane, so don't tell anyone you'll call em when you board the plane or whatever.

My ears have never popped on a plane, but if you're prone to infections and such, they'll probably pop.

Oh, and the airports I've been to have only allowed a can of mace for a self-defense weapon and a razor for shaving and such.

Definitely bring a book and a magazine, not to mention a CD player and a Gameboy Advance if possible. You have to turn off all electronics when the plane is taking off and landing, and if you run out of things to do the plane has a bunch of magazines on the back of each seat.

Print your name and any other contact information very clearly two or three times on each suticase you take with you. If the tag falls off, then no one will know who it belongs to.

Oo you got strip searched?! Poor girl! I just took mine off because my mom figured it was that that was setting off the alarm.

:roflol:

I think it is, but I'm a guy, I don't think that will ever happen to me :P

It's not funny!
Well... actually it kinda was. It was her first strip search, my first strip search; and when we figured it out; it was amusing.
Guess I can't be bitter about it.
Emeh.

See? It is funny, but, I can image somewhere in the future, I will have to be strip searched, darn karma. :P

Thanks you guys for all the help!

We're only allowed to bring one suitcase and one carry-on. Which I guess is a good thing because then I won't have to worry about keeping track of more than one suitcase.

I'm pretty sure I'll wear shorts with sweat pants over them, because were I live it's barely getting above freezing.

I had back surgery a few years ago so there are some metal rods in my back. My mom called the doctor to see if they'll set off the metal detector, and his reply was "he didn't THINK so" So hopefully it won't.

I can't imagine being strip searched would be very pleasant. :(

Just in case, you should probably get a medical documentation with a doctor's signature on it.

Does that mean you've been stripsearched more than once? :P

Yeah, my mom has some metal in her ankle from an accident, so she carries a nifty little card that basicly says "i've got metal in my ankle" with her at the airport, but last time we went, she didn't set it off....i think that's saying something about our airports :-P

No.
It meants i've been stripsearched once.
I've had my bags searched though.

Oh and this probably won't happen but try to avoid bringing any souvenirs made of brass or other heavy metals home. My mom was given a little brass turtle once and you should've seen the airport official sweating while searching for what he thought was probably a grenade or something.

Oo-since planes are usually on the cold side, wear socks with ankles so it doesn't feel like cold air's blowing up your leg. Also, window seats are colder and nosier than more interior ones.

Don't wear shoes that are on the small side of fitting-your feet expand due to the lower pressure in the plane (if you take your shoes off, that is) and may not fit later.

Drink lots and lots and lots of water, or whatever liquid is available. Bring your own snacks if it's a long-ish flight--I always get hungry when they're not passing out oversalted peanuts/pretzels.

Here's some Florida advice. Assuming you're coming down here from somewehere where it's usually cold, I'd bring short sleeves and shorts. We're having pretty good weather right now and it's only getting better. But I'd pack a jacket just incase it gets chilly at night, or on the plane.

What part of Florida are you going to? I'm guessing Orlando?

You're right, for part of the trip we're in Orlando. Mostly we're going from park to park. :) I'm really excited I haven't been to Florida since I was three (so I don't remember it at all )

I was going to wear sneakers so my feet would be comfortable. I'm not sure how much walking we're going to be doing each day, but I figured sneakers would probably be best.
