I know there are two extremes when it comes to how people react to product placement in movies. Some people don't mind it at all, but for others, it ruins the whole flick. I fall more into the latter group, and such was the case with me when I saw "I, Robot." Don't get me wrong, it's really a decent movie, but the product placement got pretty gratuitous when Will Smith whipped out his Converse sneakers and piped "Vintage 2004!" It cheapens the movie.

If we paid money for the ticket, why should we have to listen to advertisements as well? Granted, there are some cases where product placement can be done subtlely, but I'd much rather we restrict movie ads to just previews. Does anyone else have a strong opinion on this?

I'm one of those people who will notice any brand name, even if you can't see the writing, and shout out "advertisment!" However, I probably spot more than is actually intentional, as in some cases it's packaging without any writing on it. It doesn't actually bother me unless it's completely obvious, even though I do always point it out. Just gives me something to do. =P

AUDI AUDI AUDI AUDI AUDI AUDI buy my AUDI AUDI please

Fair enough if they do it subtlely, but when its like JEEZUS LOOK AT MY SHOEZ and then ANOTHER pointless scene specifically put there so will can say I CAN GET YOUZ SUM CONVERSES LIKE MINES and THEN the captain who is black is all 'CAL- NICE CONVERSE SHOOZ BUY ME SOME"

Its pointless and stands out like a fat person at anorexics anonymous.

Yeah, that product placement in I, Robot was pretty obvious and a bit overdone.
But I don't mind it in movies most of the time.
I'll jokingly point it out sometimes at home, but meh... whatever.
They need money to make the movie and to give overpaid actors their paychecks.

Sometimes product placement and advertising is good. Constantine was just one big stop smoking ad.

There was this movie that apparently had hilarious blatent product placement.
some guy's like "I'm having a Mac Attack!" and gets a big mac and eats it during the movie. That would be one funny movie

:P Like in The Truman Show?

I liked the product advertising in that one movie with the guy and he was a crime stopper in the future and he runs away because he is going to murder someone because the children predicted it. What was that called? :P

Oh, well, that movie had stuff like The Gap in the future, which I didn't mind because it looked cool to see what it would look like in the future. :P

Minority Report. I haven't watched that one in a while.

I usually don't notice product placement unless its egregiously in-your-face at which point I'm usually gravely insulted that they think I'm stupid enough to fall for such obvious advertisements. Usually you just laugh them off, however, when they're at that point when they're basically just holding a product up and winking at the camera, you can't help but roll your eyes.

In Shrek 2.

I like when the giant gingerbread man scares everyone at the Starbucks, and they just run over the one across the street :P

Or stores that you might see, like, "Burger Prince" :P

As long as it doesn't ruin the movie and make it one advertisement after another...I don't mind it that much...makes me laugh more than not.

MONGO!
hehehe.

couldnt care less myself, if a film is gratuitously naff (resident evil 2...) no amount of advertising is going to spoil my day.
similarly, if a film is superb Shaun of the dead being the most recent.. oh for the days of decent films all year round :( ) no amount of marathon bars (not snickers, marathon!11!11oneshifteleven) is going to upset me.

I really don't mind it. If it isn't blatent "I LOVE COKE...BUY SOME" but the actors drinking coke, it actually kind of gives it a 'real' feeling because the actors arn't drinking the old 'red can brand' but an actuall drink.
