Okay, through a bit of googling, I have discovered that there are two Animal Farm movies. One is a classic, animated, and from what I hear it's about as dark as the book. The other is little-known, in the live-action style of Babe, and given a false happy ending.

Has anyone seen either? I want to know if the animated one is worth seeing, I won't be seeing the second unless I feel really masochistic and have easy access to it. Opinions on either?

I haven't seen the animated one, but We watched the babe-ish one after reading the book in school. I didn't like how they added on an ending past where the book ended. And there were parts in it that seems unnecessary. I'd just stick to the book.

Yeah, there are three scenes I remember most about Animal farm: The first rendition of Beasts Of England (well duh), The throat-rippage scene, and Boxer's death.

Seeing as the Babe-ish movie is rated PG, I SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY doubt that they could do those last two. Which sucks, because they were also some of my favourite bits.

O yeah, there was also a musical but it was never taped to my knowledge... plus in Chinese.

What was the fake happy ending like then? How odd.

I think I've seen a little of the animated one but not all the way through, and my memory of it is very vague.

Yeah, what could they do for a happy ending?

Unless they added an animal Berlin Wall that could break down. Perhaps they started sending sheep to the moon. Maybe they just got the mice to build nuclear bombs in a race against the humans and got control of a farm near where the important humans lived.

Other than that, how are they supposed to give it a happy ending while keeping the integrity of the book. That stupids me!

I've seen both...animated, right? The happy one is really cheesy- Benjamin, of all the animals, leads a second revolution. The other classic one is pretty good, although I didn't watch it in its entirety.

There's also one where they use real animals and people actors...I think...

It's a book written by George Orwell.
Animals on a farm revolt, it goes pear shaped.

It's basically an analysis of the Russian Revolution and the flaws of their 'communist' dictatorship.

I have seen an animated one and the non-animated one in school. I prefered the book to both. I can hardly remember them because I tried not to pay much attention, so I wouldn't get them confused with the book. I think the animated one followed the book more than the other but not everything was the same. The live-action one, I found not to have followed the book. I didn't like either of them.

the film version's ending was incredibly lame.
the stupid dogs (names evading me -must sleep-) leads the other animals back to the farm (the pigs are dead or somthing, its been a while since i saw it, they went into hiding anyway after where the book ends)
and find the farm to be a sty. (literally)
