If I were to make a movie, I'd like to try to make a new movie of Little Shop of Horrors. However, I'd use the complete musical script and actually not edit things out, like the 1986 movie. Also, I'd see if I could fit in the demo songs that are on the end of the 2003 Broadway cast recording.
Now, on to the questions...
Would it be about an existing character?
Yeah. Lots of 'em.
What would the name be?
Little Shop of Horrors
What genre would it be?
Comedy/musical
How long would it be?
The stage show averages around an hour and a half, so I guess about that length. Of course, if I added in the 5 demo songs, it would be longer.
What would it be about?
The same exact story as the musical. Seymour finds a weird plant and names it Audrey II, after a girl named Audrey. They work at Mushnik's Skid Row Florist Shop. The plant brings fame and fortune, but it eats blood, and only Seymour knows the secret. Seymour feeds Audrey's abusive dentist boyfriend to the plant, as well as Mushnik. Eventually, the plant kills Audrey, and Seymour tries to destroy it and gets eaten in the process. That's just a basic, minimal outline of the plot.
What actors would play in it?
Knowing me, I'd probably cast myself as Seymour. If not, I'd probably get Jonathan Rayson, who played the part when I saw the Broadway tour when it came here.
I'd like to see if Alicia Keys would be good as one of the duop girls. For some reason, I think she'd make a good Crystal. I'm not sure about Chiffon and Ronnette, though.
I'd also like to see if Steven Page from BNL would be good as Orin Scrivello, D.D.S. Of course, whomever I got to play Orin would also play Bernstein, Mrs. Luce, Skip Snip, and Patrick Martin, since that's the way the stage show is meant to be done.
Mushnik would definitely have to be someone Jewish. Not sure who, though.
For the voice of Audrey II, I'd probably have to go with the guy who did the voice on the 2003 Broadway cast recording. I forget his name.
And as for Audrey, I would want to get my friend Jael, who played Audrey in our school's production. She has, like, the perfect voice for the part, and she played it very well. Only problem is that the part is written to be a blonde white girl, and Jael is black. So, yeah, some hardcore fans might want to see Audrey played by the kind of person she was written to be. But hey, it's my movie and not theirs, so ha. I can make it how I like it.
I also think it would be neat to get Rick Moranis to play the first customer to see Audrey II, just as a reference to the 1986 movie. (Rick Moranis played Seymour in the 1986 movie.)
You can't prove I'm addicted to Little Shop of Horrors.
