Fenrir Greyback is the most vicious werewolf alive. It was he who bit Remus Lupin and turned him into a werewolf (as Lupin's father had offended him). He has a policy of biting children so he can raise them to hate mankind. Fenrir is also a cannibal, as he enjoys eating human flesh when he isn't in his transformed werewolf state. He is on Voldemort's side in the Second War.

Moreover at the end of the book, he had bitten Bill Weasley (when he had not transformed, so Bill will not turn into a werewolf). He left Bill barely recognisable, and Lupin noted that it was an extraordinary case and "they might notice wolfish characteristics in him".

Fenrir Greyback is named for the wolf Fenrir, whose release in Norse mythology heralds Ragnarok. The mythical Fenrir kills Odin, who is then quickly avenged by his son Vidar.
