The issue has finally been addressed! From the editorial:

Ahhh, the Purple question. Without revealing too much, this was originally done in preparation for the Dr. Sloth plot in which Orange and Purple Grundos played quite a large role. Since then, the spots have been added to new Purple pets to remain consistent with the ones that were given spots during that time. There was hope that the plot would be ressurected, at which time the secret behind the Orange spots would be revealed. This may no longer be the case though. We'll check with the powers that be and see where we stand on the whole thing.


Interesting. :thinking: Sooo... we're either going to have the plot after all, or maybe they'll remove the orange?

Lets hope for the latter of the two...i personally like the dots and i love sloth so a plot would be great :D

I dunno, the spots look good on some pets. But on others thay make them look SO bad.

I think, and when I last checked the poll at Neocolours 70 out of 75 people agreed, that they're horrendous. As stated in the editorial, many people's previously normal purple pets were revamped without reason. Even if it were attached to a plot, the only pet it would make sense for is the grundo, especially since purple grundos are freely available at the adoption center. Taking all previous plots into account, I firmly believe that there's no way in hell they could justify the spots on every single species that was fair and reasonable. The only reason it's gone as far as it has is because Donna likes them. If it really must exist for some inane reason, let it be Kreludan purple and make the current purple pets purple. I hope beyond reason that they will indeed do something to correct this. I hope, but I'm still not holding my breath.

There's an easy solution to all of this. Put the Purple pets back to normal. Get rid of those ugly orange spots.

Then, make the Kreludan Mining Corp open for purple pets only. The purple pet goes in and receives the following message

"[Pet Name] enters the mine, following a large shaft to the left, they enter a room full of shining orange rocks. [Pet Name] mines the orange ores inside the mining corporation and comes out feeling proud of the effort they've put in. Seems some of the orange ore wiped off on them..."

They become "Kreludan Purple", with Orange spots.

If a Kreludan Purple pet goes into the mine, they receive the following.

"[Pet Name] enters the mine again. Following a smaller, darker shaft to the right, they find themselves in a room full of dull purple gems. [Pet Name] mines the purple gems for a while and emerges from the mine feeling rather satisfied with the effort they've put in. Seems the purple gems brushed the orange ore off..."

And they become normal Purple again.


Can only enter the mine once a day.

The latter of the two would be the removal of the orange, but you like the orange and want the plot, ergo you should be hoping for the former, not the latter. Just thought I'd point that out. :-)

You know. Everyone has it backwards. There are no purple pets. The ones we know as "purple" are really orange pets with lots of purple spots. not the otherway around :P

Well folks, now we have the truth behind why TNT doesn't allow Neopet dating/marriage.

Then they'd have to add in a bzillion colors for each pet. For example, a Faerie Pet marries a Darigan pet, baby is Faerie with Darigan Spots? Yup. Now we know the truth.

Hehe, you know.. I'd always thought if that were to ever happen (of course, there's no chance in Neopia), they'd just give you one of the two species as the cub and randomly select one of the four base colors. (maybe throwing in brown, orange, purple, white and other basic colourfills to go with certain combinations).

Then again, there'd be much chaos over that all.. XD

Though... the purple spots started appearing an AWFUL long time ago... all the way back then was for the plot? *blinks* I thought the first ones I saw with the orange spots was at the leaset years ago.

I think though they're refering to the pets that were pure purple or with just hints of orange that had the hideous freckles added out of nowhere roughly when the Return of Sloth TCG was just coming out. I mean they had a perfectly good Purple Koi after it was revamped and then overnight they splotted it :(

I really don't understand why people complain so much. My favorite color happens to be Purple and the spots do not bother me at all. My whole idea of this is; You're not forced to paint your pet Purple. Thus, you have no reason to complain about it.

I'm very upset at the fact that Neopets abandoned the entire Kreludan Plot because I'm an AVID Grundo fan and always will be. I'm really hoping that Neopets will do something with it because of the Moon. I don't think they will just let it sit there and do nothing with anything on it. But, it is Neopets and their history isn't so great.

But back to the spots. I don't see why people are so upset. Anyone who claims the spots do not go with Purple obviously aren't very good with fashion (ha, something that comes with being who I am I guess) because they happen to go hand-in-hand and I happen to like the spots. I think people make way to big of a deal out of a few orange spots especially when you're not forced to paint your pet that color and there are numerous other colors you can paint your pet. Yes, I do see where having just a plain purple pet would make sense, but then you'd be getting into making fuschia, mauve, lavendar, and all these other "plain" colors. I happen to completely and utterly HATE Baby, Snot, Custard, Dung, Sponge, and some other childish colors and I know a lot of others who do to, but people don't make a big deal out of that and all the "cute" colors on Neopets, so why make a big deal out of the spots? It's not the end of the world.

In July of 2003 (I think) Neopets posted about Marriages coming soon and then in the real world, all these rather ignorant religious conservatives started attacking the whole "Gay Marriage" issue and I think that has a lot to do with why Neopets doesn't want to tackle the marriage issue.

If you think about it, it wouldn't be quite fair not to let to Pets of the same gender get married and that would cause an issue. Then "ignorant" parents would start complaining that Neopets is trying to turn their children into Homosexuals and trying to put the Homosexual Agenda onto their kids and well, just look at what is occuring into today's world and put it into Neopets Terms and that's what would happen. Doug Dohring happens to be a Scientologist also. So, I think that is the main issue of why Neopets really won't allow marriages. I mean, I can't really think of any other reasons besides the whole "breeding" thing. But, Neopets wouldn't have to breed if they got married. Eh, who knows really.

The big issue is, some people used to have purple pets that were just pure purple. And liked them that way. Then one day... all of a sudden.. they had ORANGE SPOTS. That wasn't the way they had painted the pet, OR they way they wanted it to look.

Personally, I kept my zafara purple after the spots because I didn't like any other colours at the time. But as soon as Christmas came out.. byebye purple. XD
