My NP Keeps Increasing, But I'm Not Doing Anything....

Something weird is going on, and I'm not entirely sure what.

Last night, I noticed that I seemed to have 1000 extra NP. I brushed it off as a RE I just didn't notice and went on my way.

Today, an extra 5000 NP found its way into my "out of pocket" NP. I figured, once again, I'd missed an RE (maybe the Golden Pteri had paid me a visit), invested it in the bank, and went on.

I just got 500 NP out of nowhere. I can find the place where the NP jumped (Neoboards), but not the RE that would supposedly cause it.

I'm off to change my password just in case, but I can't figure out where this extra NP would be coming from. Is this happening to anyone else?

(Before anyone mentions it: I'm not entered in the lottery or anything similar, I already got my LC winnings, and I didn't guess Tuesday's MP.)

Did you do any of those "Earn 500np by taking this quiz!" things? They take forever to go into your account.

If it's a daily thing, you might be getting some NP from being in a trophy spot the top x list for a game....

I took the 900 NP test yesterday, but I already got the NP for it. And before last night, I hadn't taken that test in ages.

As for the game trophy.... :roflol:

I played a handful of games last night, but my scores were nowhere near high enough to compete with the top 100. That, and I don't see any new trophies on my page. o_O

I'll log on later tonight and see if the password change makes any difference.

My brother had a similar bug a few years ago...in fact, the same one! He would be going around Neopia, doing nothing special, and thousands of Neopoints would show up in his "out of pocket" np. It fixed itself/TNT noticed within a few weeks, tho. It's a pretty profitable bug 0:)

Up to you whether you want to tell TNT or not...back then when my bro had a bug they weren't so freeze-happy (or, it didn't seem like it). Enjoy it while it lasts, I guess, lol.

This just happened to me- I just logged on and suddenly I have about 65,000 more NP than last time, and I definitely haven't been doing anything or had any REs with that kind of payout.

That sounds a bit like lottery winnings. Maybe you were given a lottery ticket as an RE and your number came up?

My money problems stopped after the password change, although a bowl of apple borovan appeared in my inventory, unannounced, so I'm still not sure I'm out of the woods yet. Given the relatively small amounts of money, I think I just keep missing REs. Or they're not showing up for some reason. o_O

Wow, that's so weird! If even after password changes you think something fishy is up (like you've been hacked), it would be best to contact TNT.

If it happens again, I will contact them, but I'm holding back for now because I'm afraid this is what'll come out of it:

Me: Hi. Um, not that I don't appreciate the excess NP, but small amounts of it keep appearing in my account for no apparant reason.
TNT: Oh, ok. *ices my main*
Me: ...what the heck?
TNT: Security measure!
Me: Ok... So when can you unice it?
TNT: Un-ice it? :roflol:

Me: -_-
TNT: Oh, and let's ice your side for good measure. Y'know, "just in case."

Me: ...*leaves*

Looking back, I think the borovan appeared right before I logged out the last time (maybe right before or after I changed my password), and I just didn't notice. It wouldn't be the first time I've gotten borovan through an RE. I haven't had anything weird happen since then, so I'm going to tentatively assume that the problem's corrected itself.

You're not premium, are you? I'm not sure what happens to unclaimed portal SSHs; it could be that they deposit themselves into your inventory and NP-on-hand.

Alas, no. I'm just your average, non-paying Neopets player.

The strange gifts and money have stopped appearing in my account, so I'm satisfied that whatever it was has since ceased. Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone. Moderators can feel free to lock this thread.
