No other dough based dessert can beat a cream filled donut! When it comes to just plain or glazed donuts I'd say a bagel with cream cheese on it is better, however put some kind of topping on it, filling in the center -- or even better, both -- and you've got one delicious little dessert.
Donuts aren't my favorite dessert, but they are in my top 5.

I'm a big fan of bagels. I love the ones from Wegman's. I put cream cheese and jam on them. If they're cinnamon raison ones, I use Nutella.
Yum!
Bagels > donuts.

Donuts own most bagels, except the insane ones we get in robotics.

There are éclairs and then there are long johns; I Google Imaged "long john donut" and got that image.
As a sidenote, I have yet to find out if more than a handful of people call the long cream filled donuts long johns. It's what they're called where I live anyways.

I'm nobody's health freak, but I prefer bagels because I prefer onion and poppyseed to all-out sugar.
EDIT: And they're doughnuts! Doughnuts! The word is going the way of the hiccough, and it's a sad waste.

I'd choose bagels over doughnuts any day. My best friend's family owns a doughnut shop and I ate so many one summer that they've lost all appeal to me.

Yeah... it's like not even a contest... KK stinks. DD is yummy.
I chose "same thing" even though they're not, because I can't decide which I like better.
Chocolate cake donuts. Apple fritters. Lemon filled. Custard filled.
versus
Sesame bagels. Cinnamon bagels. Honey wheat bagels.
For those who are don't eat bagels or donuts on a regular basis: they are quite different.
Bagels are much more dense, and they are baked rather than fried, and they usually don't have much if any sugar in the dough.
Bagels can be savory (onion flavor, cheese flavor, etc) or sweet, while donuts are always sweet.
The majority of donuts are made with some sort of frosting or glazing; bagels are typically plain with seeds or other flavorings sprinkled on top (cheese shreds, poppy seeds, onion flakes).
Donuts are typically eaten cold rather than heated up, and a donut doesn't need anything added to it, while many people prefer to toast their bagels and top them with cream cheese, butter, or jam.
Donuts come in all shapes: although one of the most common shapes is an O shape, they can be made in the shape of an 8, in a twist, in a loaf shape (long johns), a round bun shape (filled donuts), little balls (donut "holes") and lumps (fritters). Bagels, on the other hand ONLY come in the O shape.
