Living only a few minutes away from the airports targeted, it’s shaken me up quite a bit. A friend of the family is also suppose to be coming back tonight from Cyprus and my parents were going to pick them up, and now they cant fly back cause their flights have been cancelled.

The news said something like 19 people were carrying the bombs. The news also said they were carrying liquid explosives in things like bottles of coke! How mad is that?

:S

Its a shame these hindu extremists continue to attempt to terrorise the world.

Luckily it was averted before anything terrible happened.

Yeah, I just woke up a few minutes ago and my dad told me about that. They arrested 21 people who were planning on getting on 9 separate flights from the UK to the US, and the explosives were to be hidden in bottles of shampoo, etc.

Since they're banning all bottles of liquid, they might as well ban all luggage and get it over with. <_<

Ayse, I wouldn't trust word-for-word the first news reports about these things. They tend to be more on the side of 'OMG'.

The facts should start to trickle through soon..

Yeah, there are lots of new restrictions at the airport.

Apparently they think about 50 people were involved, but they have only said they arrested 21 people.

Here's another article on it.

It's a little unsettleing, cause I'm going to be on a plane next week.

We're flying on Sunday... That's going to be a pain, no liquids? They better give drinks out right away when we get on, airplanes always make me thirsty, and I like to have a drink in case my ears pop. I'm glad they caught these people though before they got on the plane! I wonder how they caught them? I mean, how did they know what was in the bottles?

I think MI5 has people watching places both on the net and in real life and so they pick up on this sort of thing.

Weren't they Islamic? I'm not sure, but I do know that Islamic extremists pretty much hate countries such as the US and UK.

I live in Atlanta, near one of the biggest airports in the world. The joke is that, no matter where you fly, you will stop in Atlanta. For Delta flights, that's really true because Delta is headquartered here. We just added a new way to scan bags that takes them underground and makes the process go faster.

I read another BBC story (getting quite a lot of news from the Beeb for an American, huh?) that showed a picture of someone's carry-on luggage, all individually sealed in what appeared to be Ziploc baggies. It's insane.

Now I expect the Shrub is going to go on TV and say a few inane words about it, like "The country is safe" and blah blah blah whilst the crazy conservatives at Fox News make it out to look like voting Democrat = voting for terrorism.

That happens every time...

Lets just thank goodness that our military investigation services in our countries are doing their jobs well.

In a way, it makes me feel better that they are able to find these terrorists and sort them out. OK, there's a bit of disruption, but all for the greater good.

Well, they caught the people before they were even at the airport. From what I've heard, they arrested them at several houses, and said that the people were going to carry the liquid explosives in shampoo bottles, etc., and assemble it on the plane. They were then going to use an electronic device to detonate them, which is why gadgets are also banned on carry-on luggage in the UK.

And apparently Bush already knew about the arrests before they were going to happen, so it really wasn't a huge surprise.

All hand-luggage has been banned in the UK now. Possibly temporary however.
