Well, my thought was I'd do 1 gram of each and have their combined totals average out to 80 (where 1x + 1y + 1z, all divided by 3, equalled the right number), so that the remaining 3 grams would still have the proper averages.

This is where I'm stuck, though. I'm sure there's some way to figure it out mathematically how much of each I need, but I keep coming up with too many variables to work with.

Edit: Sorry, I missed one question. All of the property values currently in the composite were as close to 82 and 79 as I could get them (which was probably my biggest mistake), and most were right on the dot. I can bring up the specifics if you'd like me to.

I used this petpage to do the 3rd stage, it's a quick way to do it, and easy too, no maths involved. Poor maths is so mistreated during this stage :( but I'd go mad if I had to track 2 variables.

Oops, I'd just thought of a way for you to finish yours with what you already had :P Good luck with that method :D

Well, I still have the original composition (sans 3g) if you feel like humoring me. :p

Seriously, though, thanks for taking the time to try and think up a solution for me. I really appreciate it. :)

It's fine. 8 o'clock in the morning, and I have nothing else to do :P

What I think:
Like you were thinking, take 1 gram of the 3 ingredients you haven't used.

BUMROOT
Don't burn it
Crush completely
Soak completely
Desiccate completely

LEAFY SLORGBLOSSOM
Burn completely
Crush completely
Soak completely
Desiccate completely

BAGGUSS PULP
Burn completely
Crush completely
Soak completely
Desiccate completely

So, you're basically maxing them all out completely, except for the Bumroot, which doesn't get burnt at all. Hopefully my maths is right and that would keep it all even.

Darn, I was hoping some trial and error by users would have revealed what the Spectral Essence is. Here is my theory based on allnameswereout's post a few pages back. He tried doing one thing to an ingredient then putting it in the cauldron to see what the color effect was.

Apparenly all the colors found can be made with only four ingredients. Which is good, since we can't have more than that on the Workbench at one time.

I was thinking that similar to the last cauldron brewing stage (for Bruno's potion) that a mixture or even sequence of all these colors would lead to the Spectral Essence?

(Color: Image Link Name)
Red: (comp_a_2278f0dfba.gif)
Orange: (comp_ab_275b52f384.gif)
Purple: (comp_ac_1ef00a68cb.gif)
Bright green: (comp_bc_b2e0822b0f.gif)
Glowing yellow: (comp_bd_def45c954c.gif)
Blue: (comp_c_4e86335214.gif)
Glowing blue: (comp_cd_97394635b4.gif)
Glowing light green: (comp_d_cc7b2b7ae9.gif)

---

(Ingredient = Color Effect)
Bumroot = Purple
Leafy Slorgblossom = Yellow (not necessary?)
Bagguss Pulp = Glowing Blue (not necessary?)
Sharpgrass = Bright Green, Orange, Glowing Blue
Bloodfern Loam = Red, Bright Green, Glowing Green
Crushed Jurpleberries = Blue, Red, Yellow, Glowing Green

Therefore, I was thinking that if we used Bumroot, Baggus Pulp, Sharpgrass, Bloodfern Loam, and Crushed Jurpleberries, either in a combination or sequence (virtually regardless of qualities?) that that would result in the Spectral Essence?

Anyone willing to give it a try? If not, I might later today. My Composite #2 in the third stage was relatively easy to make once I noticed that certain actions can increase certain qualities in an even one to one ratio. And an Excel sheet worked wonders for me. In addition, here are some of my own notes (and a couple from other users) on that:

Burning Leafy Slorgblossom raises Divination

Crushing Bagguss Pulp raises Enchantment AND Power
Burning Bagguss Pulp raises Power

Burning Sharpgrass lowers Divination
Dessicating Sharpgrass raises Enchantment AND Power (1:1)
Dessicating Sharpgrass lowers Divination
Crushing Sharpgrass lowers Power
Burning Sharpgrass raises Power
Soaking Sharpgrass raises Divination
Soaking Sharpgrass lowers Enchantment

Crushing Crushed Jurpleberries raises Conjuring
Dessicating Crushed Jurpleberries raises Power
Burning Crushed Jurpleberries raises Enchantment

Soaking Bloodfern Loam raises Power
Soaking Bloodfern Loam lowers Conjuring AND Divination (1:1)

And to all those still having trouble "adding" your Relevant property. Remember it is the weighted average. No fancy maths needed. Just proportions. For instance, it can be worked out like so once you have some preliminary values:

(Example) Composite #2:
Quantity: 25 grams
Target value: +83 +/- 5

(Say I have three ingredients with the following proportions & qualities)
10/25 grams @ +83
10/25 grams @ +114
5/25 grams @ +38

(Change proportion to its equal percentage and simply multiply)
.4 * 83 = 33.2
.4 * 114 = 45.6
.2 * 38 = 7.6
--------------------
(Add averages) = 86.4

Remember, an Excel sheet with simple formulas can help a great deal. :)

Thank you very much for the link. It made much more sense at a glace :D Unfortunately the thing just won't burn anymore :(

This step reminds me so much of the petpet one in the Altador Plot:(
