Do You Sing?

I sing...ish. I'm in choir at school, though i don't like it at all. I used to want to be a musical theatre actor, but i've gotten into theatre lighting in the past year, so there goes that.
I sing. When i'm alone. Shower. Yar.

I was in various choruses (chori?) for seven years. It was mandatory in elementary school, and I went to kindergarten somewhere else, so that was 1st through 5th grade. Then I was in 6th grade chorus, and then 9th.

I was perfectly fine singing with a bunch of other people. Problem is, that's not what I want. I want the spotlight. I used to want to be a singer and actress too, but now I just want to be an actress, because I..."dislike" my singing.

Showers aren't all that safe (someone might be in the next room!), and for some reason I can't sing and shampoo at the same time, so there goes that. Sometimes I sing when I'm home alone.

I burst into song whenever the opportunity arises. The more I've heard the song, and the more meaning I attach to said song, the less likely I am to make a fool of myself. If I haven't heard it much, I'm guaranteed to make a fool of myself. If it's a Harry and the Potters song, I won't sound any worse than the original singers, so...

Of course, that's moot when I try to sing two melodies at once (i.e. Down Once More or that spiffy tune that plays when Hamish throws the sword.) Should have been raised in a Thai monastery just for that. (If it's the Thai monks who sing in chords? Correct me if I'm wrong.)

I like singing, but I think I sound really bad, then someone goes and tells me that I'm really good, and the next time I sing loudly, everyone cringes. I hate that. So I hate singing. but it is rather nice... in private.

Overtone singing/throat singing, or singing more than one note at once, is probably most commonly thought of as coming from Tibet. It's not terribly difficult to learn how to do, really; I've been able to teach everyone from middle schoolers to college students to my own mother how to do it. Just make sure you don't hurt yourself if you try (The big difference between western overtone singing and throat singing is that in throat singing there's a constriction of the throat that is thought to be pretty darn bad for you).

Try making an "arrrr" sound (like a pirate, almost) on a single note and work on focusing the tone as much as you can and bringing it forward in your mouth, or switch out other vowels ("eee" works best for me) but keep the r "color". Really, just play with your mouth and see what works Chances are, the "fundamental" (the note you're actually singing) won't be all that pretty (in fact, it's usually a fairly annoying sound on its own), but the overtones will sounds great.

Even my patient mom tells me to shut up when I start singing. I don't think it's usually all that bad, and when I try to sing good I guess I'm ok.
It's the volume that's the problem.

I have this nice BIG voice which I have no idea where it came from. To add to that, the house we're living in now is old and the walls are thin. You can hear me, from anywhere in the house, from outside apparently, according to my mom. (And to add to THAT, recent Japanese songs have a sort of have yelling way of singing)

About the shower..... Sometime I get shampoo in my mouth >_<
Anyway, I don't sing at school just because it feels embarassing (I try to forget the fact that you can hear me from outside), but at home there probably isn't a day I don't sing, even if I'm down with a cold so bad that everything comes out as croak.

Yes. I used to be in my school's choir. I was decent, I think - the entire soprano section would always listen to me for the pitch o.O

I'm gonna miss choir now I've graduated. Not the director, though.

If you had asked me six months ago, I would have said in the shower. Now, I say yes! I developed a Broadway addiction, and learned I actually sound quite good singing Broadway.

So, as long as I only have to sing Broadway, country, or stuff I've written myself, I can sing in front of people.

I don't like to brag, because I frankly think I sound bad, but I've made the Area Choir the past 3 years row, and this year I made the State choir, lol! I was all confused when they called my name because I messed up like 50 times. I'm a Chamber Singer, which are like the only singers that get to sing pop music in the program and part of the Honor's Choir.

Most of my voice teachers have said I could be great at Broadway or Pop music, so I guess it depends who you ask. I looooooooooove to sing songs from Wicked!

I do love singing, and wouldn't mind making a career out of it, and for anyone who wants to know or cares lol, I sing Tenor for all auditions, but I can sing from a E2 up to a C7, and can vocalize a note higher than that.

Lol I was bored, so I just sang along with the piano XD

I sound awfully ugly, but it feels great once in a while, so when Im alone (Completly alone) and that Im listening to a great song and dont feel hyper good, I sing... but I rarely dont feel good, so I rarely sing and that is VERY good, or everyone would die. poor ears.. lol
BUT, Even though I cant sing. At least I can act and dance.. -Lets hope no one will ever ask me to be part of a dance-acting-singing show- They will all have an heart attack if I try to sing. LOL XD Seriously.. So No, I dont sing. Defenetly not. xD

Mostly in the shower, but since I'm getting better, I'll sing in other places, too. In fact, I'm considering joining the cast of the school's next musical.

Constantly. When I'm listening to music and when I'm not. At school, at home, in the shower, in my backyard and while going on walks around my neighborhood. At the top of my lungs. Usually when I think no one is listening (but someone almost always hears me because the fact that I think no one is listening causes me to sing louder than ever.) Luckily I can carry a tune (and usually on key) so it's not all bad if someone does hear.

I've been hearing a lot about this lately. I first heard about it either last week or two weeks ago when my boyfriend found out that he could produce two tones at once. When he showed me, he did it pretty soft and deep but I could hear the main note he started with, a second note he slipped in and baaaarely hear one overtone above it (I don't have the ear for that stuff like he does).

Annnd I found out today that my younger bro can do this...really well. He got into Region chorus this year and they did a piece that was pretty heavy with throat singing. I caught him singing in the shower with some volume behind it...

They may be doing it two different ways. My bro is too shy to just do it alone in front of someone so it's difficult to compare.

*shudders* Cool as it is, it has to be one of the creepiest sounds I have ever heard from a human voice. It sounds so...artificial (for lack of a better term). I still have the jibblies listening to him.
