Wow that is scary. Holes like that scare me. I wouldn't want to be near it.

That has to be, by far, the biggest sinkhole I've ever seen. It's too bad that the three people died as a result though. Hopefully it won't cause others, or widen even further.

Me as well. It's amazingly deep. I feel bad for those families who are dealing with the loss of loved ones and their homes.

I can pretty much guarantee that half of this sinkhole is filled with sewage.
I don't think you WANT to see the bottom :P

Same way the roofers covered the hole in my parents' roof.

With a tarp.

(Mind, hole happened first, just Kym took longer than expected to spa... Post it)

It's two sons and a father. No daughter involved as far as I know.

But still, it's an awful situation. I'm surprised the damage wasn't worse considering how much fell into that hole.

Thanks for correcting me though it is Irma that made say daughter since I had never heard of the name before which is why I thought that.

BBC news from the 23rd.

Although one dead body was found.

The update on the National Geographic site states that three bodies were found. The two sons were found floating in the sewage, and the father I do believe was pulled from the hole itself.

:o wow, very scary.

There was one on the main road to the city where we used to live in California (out in the boonies). We had to drive an alternate route for over a month, which was really inconvenient and time consuming, but we had no choice. The hole was definetly smaller than this one. I can't imagine how long it would take to "fix" this humongous one.

Merry Christmas!

One appeared in Edmonton a couple years ago, a city truck fell in, it was a bit weird. To fix it? Honestly... they'll probably have to do something with the sewage line beneath and then see if they can fill/brace it enough so that more doesn't fall away.

This is what will most likely happen to New Orleans (United States of America). If I remember correctly, a large portion of the city is built on garbage, sediment, and such simply pushed into the ocean and then built on. Not completely sure how much is bulit on what, but it's below sea level, too. So it could Antlantisise.

Yay for making up incredibly awesome words. *pats self on back*
