Please help before I lose my nut entirely

#1 Post by Asthaloth »

Right, during one of my (Now routine) sweeps of the rubbish my elder brother does to the computer, I disabled his admin access.
Problem being it's disabled admin access on all accounts.
This, as you might imagine for computer that is in desperate need of defragging, is an issue.

Anyone know anyway to undo it?
I cant system restore or anything obviously.

Have you tried making groups and setting the access permission in there on what can and can't be used on his account? Or possibly making your own password protected admin account to do what you have to do?

If you have a problem with the admin account password or it being locked, the ultimate boot cd will help you out and reset the password. ;)

Well, there really isn't much you can do. I know that a friend of mine had the same problem, but she went into her hard drive, and got rid of all accounts.

Honestly, in order to really get rid of anything, I think you have to go into Bios.

For XP (maybe Vista too?) -
Have you tried restarting in Safe Mode and selecting the Administrator account? You should be able to change accounts from there.

If you have tried and it didn't work, I've got a tool I can recommend, but it's kind of dangerous if you hit the wrong keys.

*Also, if you don't know how to get into safe mode, hit F8 repeatedly while your computer is starting (before Windows starts to load).

AHA!
I hadn't considered safe mode, many thanks, it's sorted now. :)
