2. It is an act of treason to place a postage stamp bearing the British monarch upside-down. (seven percent)

Back when British monarchs passed laws (instead of the Prime Minister and Houses of Parliament nowadays) the monarchs possibly thought upside-down head represented death to the monarch due to heads being down after execution

9. It is illegal to enter the Houses of Parliament in a suit of armour. (three percent)

You would only really wear a suit of armour if you are going to war as a suit of amour represents war. (e.g. The Battle of Waterloo)

10. In the city of York it is legal to murder a Scotsman within the ancient city walls, but only if he is carrying a bow and arrow (two percent)

Back when England and Scotland were at war with each other (when each their own separte kings and queens) murdering a bow-and-arrow-carrying Scotsmen within the city walls of York, northern England was understandable since the English didn't want the Scots to overthrow England.

oddly enough in some places in the US it is considered good luck to place a stamp on a letter upside down. Just a random though.

and like I said before, I'm sure all odd laws have a well thought origin, but they're outdated now...they just have yet to be repeeled (much like the anoying brothel law in my city).

it's not so much a law, but more a superstition.
I just never understood why people don't open umbrella's inside, or why touching wood is good luck.

In the UAE(United Arab Emirates : if you don't know where it is google it!) it is now aparently illegal to have any food stuff from Denmark or Holland. I think it was put into affect after those controversial comics about islam came out..... o_O

Favorite law ever:
In Huntington West Virginia, it is legal to beat your wife, but only on sundays, and only on the county courthouse steps.

Second favorite law ever:
In St. Louis, it is illegal to drink beer from a bucket while sitting on a curb.

I'm not sure about the umbrellas, but i remember reading somewhere that the "touch wood" part presumeably came from times where people revered tree spirits, and you were supposed to touch a living tree/plant, to sort of pray for luck from the tree spirit, not dead wood :P

Them county courthouse steps must be awfully busy on Sundays..

I think the state domestic violence prevention act supercedes the county ordinance.

Plus, the courthouse is closed on sundays.

Id say that i am an undercover philosopher, rather than an activity.

Dumb Laws in Israel:

Picking one's nose on the Sabbath is illegal.

It is forbidden to bring bears to the beach.

If you have been maintaining an illegal radio station for five or more years, the station becomes legal.

Bicycles may not ridden without a license.

Dumb Laws in Singapore:

Failure to flush a public toilet after use may result in very hefty fines. (Imagine if it was blocked before you used it and despite flushing the thing doesn't go away.)

It is illegal to pee in an elevator. ( o_O Why anyone would want to do that in the first place inside a elevator is a more interesting question.)
