I was especially happy when I was writing the title because I'd recently found out how Athens is spelt in Greek. Unfortunately, Athena was the closest I could get to Greek since I don't have a theta sign on my computer. :P

Oceania is the continent that mainly consists of Australia and New Zealand.

Off topic- one of the counselors at my camp was from New Zealand. She lived really close to where they filmed part of LOTR.

There's like all these tours where you can see all the different locations cost like 5k for a full trip.

I've been to heaps of the locations :). My favourite is the area where Aragon falls off into the lake, its like 10mins away from me :D.

Ok now on topic: Is there soccer in this?

Considering LOTR pieces were filmed everywhere its never particually hard to find one near to you. [insert gloat] I walked around on the set for Minas Tirith! And Hobbiton! [/gloat]

Trav... Athena is a goddess, not a god =P

I'm so excited. They've already begun, I watched the first part of the opening ceremony, then snuck back to the computer during the Parade of the Nations.
I've never watched the summer Olympics before. I'm a great fan of the winter Olympics though, and as this year's summer Olympics are so historic (being in Greece and all) I figured it was as good a time as any to start watching them.
I'm a huge fan of Athena, she's by far my favourite Greek goddess, and someday I plan to visit Athens, so this is fun for me.
Oddly I'm probably going to root for America. Normally I wouldn't but the Olympics seem to bring out patriotism in me that I didn't know I had.

Sea of Amy Lee's, Chass!!! Sea of Amy Lee's!!!!!!

But the '96 Olympics in Atlanta is what got me hooked on them. Woooo Keri Strug! Gotta watch the gymnastics.

My mom and I have been spending time critiquing the fashions of each nation. I think a lot of countries need to get into their heads that tan and white have been done...I mean, geez Greece! You're hosting for chrissakes! Try to be a little more original...

And of course the US of A had by far the best outfits, and anyone who says otherwise is just plain wrong!

Think the open ceremony just got done.. or is pretty much done.

I thought it was neat with the whole erm... statue looking people thing :P rofl...
It was all pretty boring though.

But anywho... I plan on watching it if I remember it's on heh.
I didn't watch any of the last Olympics b/c I just completely forgot they were even on

I remember when the Olympics was in Atlanta.. heh... I had to drive through Atlanta when it was going on.. GEEEEZE the traffic was horrific.

And I also drove through Atlanta the day after that whole bombing thing.. was supposed to drive through on the day that happened but well.. I was bad and didn't for reasons I don't wanna share :P lol

I'm watching it now.
The history of greek "statues" was just increadible
Also you freaked me out that I had missed the parade of nations.
Go figure, timezones ;)
I should have remembered that since I have had so many friends feel strongly that NBC is mis-handleing the broacasting of the games (with things not being live and all)

I'm pretty lucky that I have a few days off to watch the games.
Although once that break stops I won't be able to get anywhere near a tv for about 4 days.

I'm going to have to go try and figure out when the things I want to watch are on.

Ooooo greek flag -- going to go back go paying attention to the TV

*Edit*
okay so I have more to say.
I love the olympic opening ceremony.
It's so great to get to see all of the people from the different countries.
And everyone's so happy, you know know that they have all done something increadible just to be there and they're so happy and so proud.
It's awesome. Just getting to see everyone so happy is one of the best parts.

Also does it screw up anyone else that the "alphebetical order" isn't since it's the greek alphebet. It confuses me.

*edit again*
does the totaly unnecessary terrorism commentary bother anyone else. I found it both gratuitous and insulting. They need to keep that sort of thing for commentary or summery shows, not for commentary during actual olympic events. Lets stay on topic announcers!

Is it just me or did anyone else think that cauldron thing that was lit at the end looked like a giant cigarette?

Wow, I said the exact same thing when I saw it.

I jumped out of my seat and screamed like a crazy person when USA came up. ^_^ I was still happy when China came around, but I didn't get the same patriotic surge...

I never thought of that. :roflol:

I usually just watch the opening/closing ceremonies, and very little of the actual competition. I do watch gymnastics and track & field, and maybe I'll watch one of the more ususual sports this time 'round.

Oceania consists of Australia, New Zealand, , and a bunch of smaller islands in the Pacific. I wouldn't really call it a continent since most of it is itty-bitty islands.

I meant the whole thing couldn't be considered one. Though Australia is a continent it's not like New Zealand and the other islands are joined with it.
