Strange file appearance

#1 Post by May »

Hello to all those computer savvy people!

Last night, I had a random file appear on my desktop. The name of the file is "_GEAREXT.WO_IDENT" and it's a .txt file. I have not opened it, as I don't know what it is. I ran a virus scan (Norton) and two spyware scans (Ad-Aware and Spybot), yet nothing for this file came up. I tried Google, but couldn't find much about this. If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

Well, according to this, it's a file related to iTunes 6 that has to do with whenever you burn stuff to a CD. In that case, it's harmless. :)

Thanks for the response dragonfire! Thanks to a friend of mine, I found out what it was. It's some kind of temporary file used for burning cds, and normally when the cd finishes burning, the file is automatically deleted. I had an error the other night using iTunes and the cd didn't finish burning correctly, so the file was never deleted. (Info for others in case they have the file appear)
