Why is it that Neopets is so full of glitches these days?Is it because of more people or a mystery unknown?I don't even remember having any real big glitches last year or anytime before that(I've slept since then though).

Most people seem to think it is as a result of the increases in users and hence increases in page clicks, etc because of some of the Neopets promotions that have been going on. I don't think anything has been confirmed yet.

It's been mentioned in the news that they're moving databases to other servers and that's the cause of the glitches.

Hold onto your seats people... the SL is back.

I thought that too and it seems that even after they "finish" the moving some of the glitches still keep coming up every now and again... I suppose if they could be moving everything in hope that it will eliminate the glitches and the continuing glitches are as a result of the recent changes and the fact that the servers need to get used to it? I dunno.

From what I've observed, the glitches really started happening on a regular basis (read just about every weekend and at least one huge glitch a month) around December. Really...

There was the big game glitch last summer where alot of people got frozen for cheating on flash games, when it was actually a problem with some of the games. I recall that because I stopped playing everything but pyramids for like a month.

And there was the huge tp glitch during the mystery island plot. That was pretty awful, people lost millions in items and np and went on for a few days before the tp was finally taken down.

But yeah, the glitches started before the server/database moves and the Mcdonald's promo. They've just gotten alot more consistent - like there always seems to be one glitch or another happening.

Hope they're able to get everything straightened out. I can't imagine what an enormous job it must be trying to do that kind of work and try to keep the site up at the same time, especially being summer and alot more people on the site.

You're forgetting the password glitch, where people could get passwords by just requesting them.

Clone, I could never forget that one. :o I don't think I (or many people) slept during that weekend. Wasn't just passwords that people could get - it was also email addresses, which is why, I think?, that particular "glitch" went on for so many days. I wasn't going to bring that one up, that's all.

The restock glitch is most likely the result of them trying to put a new system in place and forgetting some code or something. As for the rest, I'll just blame them on the glitchy nature of running a website.

I started noticing items disappearing last June when I used quick stock and once when I bought something from someone's shop--in fact, many on PPT thought I was imagining it. Until the big one that happened I believe sometime in October. That's when the site actually went down for a couple of days, anyone remember that? A lot of people lost big ticket items--I lost a 99,999 np plushie, Tonu lost morphing potions and someone here lost a sinsis sword. Then who can forget the TP fiasco that occured in mid-November. Shops started disappearing in March. And, of course, the nail-bitting weekend the first week of April when passwords were thrown out to anyone and everyone it seemed. And, the
glitch(or two or three)-a-day marathon during the McDonald's promotion, which included a 2 day rollback of all accounts on the "a" line. So, they have been going on for a while, but not like now--where we are getting several different types of glitches every weekend.

And, the reason for the glitches: First, too many players for the number of servers and computer techs they have. Second, I think that some of their servers are old and instead of replacing them before they are sputtering and shooting flames, they wait until they fizzle out completely. And, finally, they do not take the site down completely while they are moving databases, etc.--which they absolutely should do--but probably never will because they lose their precious advertising dollars when the site is not being viewed by us. I am surprised that they haven't thought of putting McD's logo on the red pteri page yet.

Morningstar, I did completely forget (somehow) about the site going down for a couple of days last fall. I should have remembered it, people were climbing the walls! Probably forgot it because I might have actually gotten something done around here :P

Was that tp glitch in November? I thought it was during or after the holidays. This brain is getting old! Obviously my mental calendar has a few glitches of its own. I do remember that it went on for like 3 days before the tp was finally taken down, and when it came back up the tp faerie had been kidnapped and it was made to look like a deliberate part of the mystery island plot...those expensive cooking pot potions!

I think it's mainly the product of NeoPets juggling about a billion things at once - from marketing to new features, etc. etc. Through all the updating and changes being made daily to the site problems are bound to occur; it just so happens that these recent ones are huge and very noticeable.

And in the process of them fixing these current glitches, no doubt more will occur. :D

I remember it so well because it happened the day before my daughter's birthday, which is November 18th. There was someone on PPT whose birthday was November 17th and fellow PPTers were giving her gifts via the trading post. Needless to say, all of those gifts disappeared. And, I had just about been ready to get my daughter a gift and give it to her via the trading post. I wasn't able to do so, thank goodness--but, still and all, like many, many others, I lost a few hundred thousand in items and nps when it occurred.

Check out the news for November 20th--they briefly apologized for the trading post "going insane." I remember people were really upset because the day before in the news, Neopets had boasted about being on MSN's "Top Toy" list, yet not one word about the glitch--a tad bit insensitive, I'd say.

Then they waited a full week before we got any kind of a real explanation: "By the way, we apologise about all the problems with the Island Trading Post. Basically, we had to rewrite it because there were so many trades the script that processed it couldn't keep up with the sheer amount of trades. When it came back up it went haywire and started giving the wrong stuff to the wrong people. We really are sorry but we didn't have any logs of what happened, so if you gained stuff accidentally - why not donate it to people who lost stuff? :)
We have put a new system in place so this cannot happen again, but we are sorry, there really isn't much we can do, it's just one of those things. "

I guess we were lucky to get that explanation. Because we don't get anything anymore when glitches eat up our shops, roll back out accounts, etc., etc.

Yeah, I remember that exactly. I had just bought a Baby Paint Brush from the Hidden Tower to get the Fyora Av, and I was trying to sell it. I got a great offer, I accepted and I don't remember exactly what happened after that, but I knew something wasn't right. And I never did receive the NP for that trade.
