If it was rigged, Chris never would have gotten voted off. Whether you like him or not, you have to admit the marketing potential for him was enormous.

Just as Clay's scandal was?

I really don't think there was much marketing potential for Chris. Now for Mandisa and Paris, I can see, but for Chris? Chris is for sure going to be in Fuel, so...? Not really.

Katharine has much more potential.

But, we'll just have to see.

The show is truly rigged. Why do I say this? Because Katharine McPhee has an important daddy. Her dad produced Ryan Seacrest's show, as well as some other shows on Fox.

I am taking bets Wednesday that Katharine wins. If she wins, then you all will have to give me money...OK, not really, but that would be nice.

I thought Chris had a very big market potential? There hasn't been an Idol really in the world of "rock" yet. Except for Bo, but he never really did that well. (Did he? I'm not exactly sure).

But in the end, aren't there enough "rock stars" out there already? I mean the competition wold be huge! I dunno, maybe I really never liked Chris.

But I really do think Katharine will win.

WIS, I love your set!!!

Eh, I think Chris has much more potential, speaking from a monetary perspective, I think he would have done the best as far as album sales are concerned, and thus probably end up being more popular. Also, his genre of choice is more popular than the last three finalists.

As far as I can tell, most of the contestests are the type you like if you liked them on AI. If you didn't watch the show, you couldn't care less about them. Chris however (from personal conversation and actually hearing conversations between people that don't even watch the show) has a fanbase outside of the AI show. Those people are the ones that become successful outside of AI (Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood). While Kelly doesn't exactly fit the mold that I'm thinking of, she was the first AI, so I really don't think it matters (and she probably had the fanbase anyway). However, Carrie is in the country scene. People that enjoy that type of music may very well enjoy her. It's black and white in her career so far, which is good. Same with Chris, his genre is obviously rock. There's no grey in that. To me, both Taylor and Katherine's genre is left to guessing, which isn't good. I would like to say that Taylor has a certain "genre" (I still think bluegrass, but whatever. :P), but after actually going back and watching his performances, it's too difficult to say that he would actually, without fear of a doubt, make a certain type of album. Sure, you can be a great singer/performer, but it's no good if your fans don't know if you're even going to make albums that appeal to them (though there are those that would like it just because it's someone they like, but that only makes a person successful for a very short time.) It also seems that a genre that Taylor, Katherine, and even Elliot might fit, just wouldn't really be that popular. To me, it would seem like Katherine would have to waste her voice and go "pop" to actually get the recognition she deserves.

There aren't many that can outsell a rocker right now, and because of that, a rocker really does have more potential (and I hardly call what I've heard of Bo Bice's album "rock". It's like rock with whipped cream on top, way to light and fluffy) Then again, even though I don't like it or listen to it, I think even rappers have a huge market (though one would never make it onto American Idol, and if they did, I would throw a chair through the television).

I dunno, but I think Katharine might have more potential than Chris.

Why? Because Chris is going out into a genre, in which to actually SELL you almost have to be a veteran, or be insanely good. He also yells his songs, which is beyond annoying, and what everyone calls rock nowadays. And that annoys the hell out of me. Because some of the best rock artists didn't have to yell their songs, in some cases they belted, but not yelled. There is a HUGE difference between belting and yelling a song. And sadly to say, but Chris yells his songs, whil Katharine belts. No shreiking or anything. She might push her voice, but not yell it.

Katharine is going to be widely succesful because she has the voice for it. I know you're all going to comepletely trash me for this, but I remember hearing on some show that the first time Mary J. Blige or Lauryn Hill sang they were booed and hissed off stage, but she kept on singing, and at the end she got a standing ovation, going to show that if you give someone a chance they will be succesful, and I think that's exactly what Katharine will go through. People won't like her at first, but then they'll love her.

I may have to disagree with you on this point.

In order to sell an album, you need to release catchy singles which will get your target audience's attention. Case and point, Ashlee Simpson with her single "Pieces Of Me" -- it immediately captured everyone's attention and rocketed her album to #1 on the Billboard Top 200. Chris will not have trouble selling albums regardless of whether he screams or what not and basing it on his "yelling" is a bit, well, immature. Artists like Metallica, Tool and what not have been singing the same and have sold millions of albums. And even new artists who are emerging in the rock scene are selling well, such as Billy Talent and as far as I know, they scream a whole lot in their songs.

Katherine may be more successful because the pop genre has low standards but that doesn't count Chris out at all -- especially for the yelling reason.

He's not even allowed to say anything about it until after the tour, and the amount of other options for him are insanly large. Nothing is for sure.

As for your other arguments... I horribly disagree with you on the majority of your counts so I'm just not going there.

No, not really. Just about anyone can get into the rock scene, which is sad, but I'm just pointing the truth. Maybe to reach the fame of a band like Metallica, but seriously, there are tons of terrible garage bands around here that are really bad, and actually have a record deal. They may not be "famous" outsides the radius of a few counties, but all it really took them was popularity and a few concerts and they were practically in.

Wow, just wow. You seriously sound like you've never heard yelling in your entire life. Is that what you seriously call "yelling"? That's almost sad, because when you actually hear yelling, you may fall over and have a heart attack due to the sheer amplitude, as you weren't aware that such a sound so loud even existed. And, ironically, I have very sensitive ears, so loud noises are a no-no.

Listen to a Slipknot song if you want terrible "yelling", don't try playing that game. (not to mention that was basically summed up as "Chris yells and while Katherine does too, I'll call it something else") You seriously sound like you've never heard a rock song in your entire life.

Plus, ALL singing that has any voice behind it IS shouting, or how you like to word it "yelling".

P.S. My mother has told me to turn the television down the last 3 weeks when Katherine starts singing because, and I quote, "She's shrieking like a banshee". Coincidence? (nope)

How can you say that if you've never even met me in your entire life? I mean seriously we al lhave differences in what we consider as yelling. And I'm sorry if it sounded like that but it's the truth Katharine and Chris sing completely different. He yells and she belts.

Chris sounds worse than a banshee, so whatever, and besides, that's her opinion, and my opinion is that Chris sounds like a cat who smokes 20 packs a day. Horrible.

I think Chris sounds rather sexy and we'll buy whatever album he ends up on (besides the AI one) soon after it's released. :)

Please remember, that discussing your taste in music is fine, but do not make personal insults. This thread is for discussing American Idol and I understand it can get a bit heated, but no cat fights, please. :)
