Guns and Bows don't become that useful till you progress further along in the story, mainly when you reach a part with all the flying monsters. So until then i just equip the person with a gun(balthier) with a spear when not using gun. Although when you get the right shots guns become useful since if you have an aqua shot, then you can easily take down fire based opponents and such.

I'm powerlevelling at the Leviathan ship thing, after you're leaving it *makes sure not to put spoilers in*. :P

There's SO many enemies that I can't begin to even leave it (I get taken down by 5-6 enemies swarming me at the same time (The only part so far aside from the hunting that I've found difficult). >_> Since they come back anyway, I just stay in front of the area with the save point and kill kill kill. This also means, though, that I can't really gain anything new as far as armor, weapons, magic, and gambits go.

I really hate the Magus Soldiers.

Actually at that point in time, i believe it was at lhusu mines, i gained about...10 levels, and from then on i was at around level 24 i think. So everything from then on was a breeze. Mainly had to do that in order to gain all the monographs, and since the loot drop of bone fragments mean't 19k for 99, wasn't all that bad.

I did that too, but the skeletons stopped spawning completely. I would leave, come back, and they wouldn't. I'm leveling on those crab people I can't remember the name of, because I got tired of the siren on the ship. And that freaking fire elemental thing you find on the way through the desert... for some reason, even though it was unaggressive, my party members still attacked it. >_>

2000+ damage! Fun.

Especially when you have like 600 HP and it casts Silenaga [or whatever it's called]. xD

I like the fact that they put random enemies in that you can't possibly beat so you can come back and beat them later.

Nah, I'm on my way there. I meant after you're escaping from the Leviathan and the siren never stops. I was there for like 3-4 hours. I got stopped by that Fire Elemental thing on those silo-like things you have to walk on to get to the tomb. My party attacked it and it wouldn't stop chasing after me. x_x

I still need some gambits to even make magic-using worthwhile. So far, the only time it's been worth using is when I was using it as the party leader. Same goes for most of the ailments. I have gambits for sleep and confuse, but not for any of the important ailments.

Don't know if I am way farther than anyone on the board but if anyone has been where I am or are there now maybe you can help.

Spoiler Part

I'm stuck at the beginning of King Raithwall's tomb. I can't seem to get past the stupid wall. Anyone have any hints at all for me? As if the stupid bid wasn't bad enough :P[/b]

Spoilers

You probably know of this stuff, but I'm just going to talk as though you don't in case I were to miss something very important. :P

Train enough so that you can at least get 2 quickenings for 3 of your people (though 3 would probably be better, since they're ultimate). Also make sure to have two people that are going to be heavy melee and one person that's ranged. Also stock up on Alarm Clocks and Eyedrops and Gambit everyone for "Ally: HP<50% = Cure" (or whatever % you'd like, though 50% is probably the best at that part of the game). Make sure to put this as the very first gambit This will keep allies from attacking when they need to heal instead and they will only attack when people don't need healed.

When you reach him, pull off the quickenings. Keep in mind though, if you use a character's strongest Quickening, their MP will drop to Zero. So if you REALLY want to, you can just skip the Quickening altogether, but it'll probably take of 1/6-1/4 of it's life (yes, not as much as I would think either xD). Also, you could just use the weakest Quickening and Mist Charges (provided they come up).

Just have everyone attacking him like crazy and make sure not to have the partys' gambit on "Foe: Party Leader's Target = Attack" and probably set it to "Foe: Any/All" instead"

Once you have this done you can slash him up like nobody's business (it'll take a while, but he should fall).

One important note. Make sure to have the party leader on gambit as well. It takes WAY too much time to do an attack, switch back to items when you need to and to go into your spells to heal (spells are a pain in the butt to do manually). With the gambit on, you don't have to do anything but prepare items when you need them. (and you can keep the screen up so you can use them the SECOND you need them)

It might be wise to strengthen all of your characters evenly as well, and if you have a select amount of Phoenix Downs, to ONLY use them on your guest, unless you run out of allies are in danger of doing so (I'm not quite sure which one it is, if any, but that will at least help you in the future).

I think this is the set-up I had (it was a few days ago and many hours ago when I did that, so the weapons may be wrong):

All characters at least level 20 (I Think)

Vaan: Strongest Pole
Balthier: Strongest Gun
Ashe: Katana (I'm unsure about whether or not you can access the Kotetsu yet, but the Katanas are a REALLY good weapon)

Believe me, if you think the Wall is difficult, you should see a lot of the other bosses *cough*Elder Drake*cough* Their tactics are absolutely rediculous. -_-

People say Quickenings make the game too easy, and they do make it easier, but sometimes they do crap damage and just leave you MP-less.

If that doesn't work just keep on trying, or level up some more. I spent a few hours training and came back and beat him pretty easily after losing the first time.

FFXII is by far the most difficult and unforgiving FF so far (granted that none of the others have actually been difficult...)

-------------

Blk Mage, where you at now? I have to go to the rift or whatever. I'm about 40 hours into it right now, but I haven't gotten anywhere into the game yet. xD

Ahh, lol i'm terrible, I'm 35 hours into the game, and i'm still around rabanastre area going with hunts and marks and sidequest. So basically after you come back from tomb of raithwall, and go back to the city i'm there. And the sad thing is i'm not even 25% in the game. All the extra stuff you can do away from the storyline takes alot of time. So i'm just gonna finish off the Marilith Mark and continue with the storyline. Also when i first came back to the city, with all the new equips and such too about 50 000 gil to get it all, which took forever. My character level at this point is everyone around level 30. So practically overleveled-.-

I have 2 characters at 30 (Vaan and Balthier), Ashe and Panelo are around 27 and Fran and um... that other character that may be a spoiler :P are at 25-ish.

I really need to do some of those marks, though. I was on the way to that temple (the one I mentioned last night), but somehow, it ended up taking me hours to find the temple by accident. xD

I think I'm going to start on marks and side-quests too

Yes, constantly broke. >_> I get like 16,000 gil (I think the most I've had at one time), buy 2 weapons and two armors and it's gone (or possibly one armor). D:

I just gambit someone to steal (and make that person my party leader), run up, steal, turn gambits off and fight normally. You get the loot that you can sell for quite a bit. I usually hang around a place getting money so that I can get all of the weapons and armor.

i got this as an early christmas gift
im a total newbie, not just to the FF series, but also to RPG
in the booklet, theres a TIPS section, and theres a tip which suggests you to sell loots, but i dont know which ones are not useful, i only know that teleportation stones are useful, how do you know which ones to sell?

and this game is totally fun by the way, and i usually hate RPGs

Well, at first I figured I'll save all of the items I got from doing marks and such, but later decided it was a waste... well...

Do NOT sell any of the stuff you get from marks until later in the game (and teleport stones), everything else is fair game (and you'll need to sell certain things to unlock Bazaar items)

Yeah, I made that mistake. xD There may be some that's safe to sell, but I definitely wouldn't risk it. A lot of those items unlock the strongest weapons, I believe... or at least strong items.
